I can assure you it does. One of my previousjobs required me to enter confined spaces, and I had this instrument that detected hazardous conditions, including Excess CO concentration. If the alarm went off, you were supposed to exit the area straight away.

I had it go off in the car in heavy traffic a couple of times on high CO when sitting behind a badly tuned vehicle.

Of course we don't have annual emissions checks in Australia yet.
