Rear Cargo Cover

I was wondering if the New Fit in the US comes with a cargo cover as standard. In Thailand it doesn't, infact you can't even buy one from Honda.

No. it's not standard, but I think you can buy it as a separate add-on.

Today when I arrived home, my wife was making a rear cargo tray for our fit as we can't buy one in Thailand. She made a mold from plastic and foam. It looked just like the real thing in the pic above.

She's going to use layers of paper mashe, believe it or not and finish it off with a black material.

She loves making things from paper mashe, but I never thought it would hit my car.

What next, maybe a paper mashe body kit. Just joking, let's wait and see what it looks like. Hmmmmmm

Will do. It's going to take a week or so to fully cure, cover and find a way to install.

Its not standard but is an extra cost accessorie. Like your wife's making a cargo tray of paper-mache but I suggest formed cardboard layers sprayed with clear paint. About 4 layers will do it well and they can be sealed with paper-mache, spayed again, sanded, and painted to look better than the flimsy cloth units we have. Plus you can have matching colors.
good luck. post photos when she's through.

Well, here it is after 2 weeks of messing around. Cost about $25 for materials plus speakers which I already had from my old car.

Not as good as the original, but it will the job until the original arrives in Thailand, if ever.

Thanks, but actually I cheated a little. I backed the paper mashe with 6 mm plywood, but still very light, fairly strong and supports the weight of the speakers, which were the hardest to fit, with special connectors for easy try removal.

Thanks, it'll do until I can get an original. I can't really see it until I open the rear door, but the speakers sound great. Now that's what counts.

Thumbs up Nice!

It actually looks pretty good from the pics. nice!

I like that idea of putting speakers on the cover.

Lek, do you also have speakers in the rear doors? How many speakers are in there all together?

I was thinking that mod (cargo cover speakers) would be nice to add some 8" or 10" sub woofers, and use the cargo area as a bass box/bin to add some bass in the system. Maybe even place the amp under the cargo cover (if there's no way to mount it under the rear seats), and then when you need to haul stuff, a quick disconnect will allow you to have the full space back.

I still love those seats!!!!!!!!!

Great job!

BTW, does anyone know if the real thing can support some weight (speakers, or, a fat cat about 18 lbs)?

Not sure of the 09 cover, but if it's anything like the older Honda cargo covers, it's decent (sturdiness), not what I'd call strong, but not too weak either.

Your cat should be ok on it, even some speakers.

I'm thinking if I do the woofer mod, I'd definitely have to reinforce it a little, especially since you'll need to cut out for the speakers, and the constant booming wont help either.

waiting for those who have the cargo cover already to give their opinions
