Pls help! problem with rivet when installing sports pedals!

This is my first experience with a rivet tool and I did something stupid.

I just got done installing manual sports pedals but I messed up one of the rivets. It's sticking out a little bit! I'm not sure if I should mash it in with a hammer. This would be the easiest option. Do you think I'd break the rivet? Are rivets strong...? I have absolutely no idea.

Would it be possible to remove the rivet and reinstall another one? The problem with this option is that I don't have anymore rivets and I'm not sure of the size of the ones that I used as they came with the OEM sport pedals...

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Agreed...drill bit the size of the rivet body (not the head) and drill it out...use a fresh one.

You'll have to drill it out. Rivets are available, but finding one with a black looking front is the harder part. What I've seen is chrome-ish looking, so that new rivet would stick out like a sore thumb.

drill it.
and if you don't have any rivets left over. you can always
get some at Home Depot or Lowes.

It doesn't stick out as much as I initially thought. I'm just going to leave it alone. I think I might make it worse by trying to fix it!

Thanks for the help...

Is it loose or firmly in place? If its holding, you could just sandpaper/file off the excess carefully.

just take a center punch and gently hit the top of the rivet with it. this will force the rivet farther into the pedal. rivets are strong so no worries about breaking it.
