My passenger wiper still built up a large ball of ice on it, rendering it useless. The problem: I had +32 wiper fluid in the reservoir. I put the cold weather stuff in, and it fixed the problem.

 

The AC does not run in cold weather even in defrost mode due to low refrigerant pressure due to cold temperatures.

 

Then tell me why I hear it and feel it. The air is definitely dryer when it's on too.

 

Just a reminder...don't forget to close the driver and passenger side round vents to provide an extra boost to your windshield when/if ice has formed.

Still think there is merit to running the compressor in defrost mode; keeps the seals in good order. Well worth a little bit of gas.

I think when you are in defrost mode, the compressor is turned on and not necessary the A/C itself (I can be wrong). It is used to make the air less moisturize so it won't build up fog easily on the windows.

On that matter, I found the defroster a bit weak for the side windows. When I am alone the driver 's side window easily fogs up (Yes yes I admit I breath out a lot of CO2~!!). The quickest way is 1) use my hands to clear it 2) let the window down 1 cm so no fog builds up. Otherwise if I have to rely on the defroster it will take me at least 10 min. On my other civic and corolla, when the defroser is on you can feel the air way less moisturized, and it smells better too~!

And as I replied to Wilmax11's thread, for Fit owners in extremely cold climates, this does seem to be a design problem for Honda. Auto accessory vendors sell supplemental defrosters that plug into the 12 volt outlet and can be placed on the dash. The heating coil and fan in a small enclosure does a good job in quick defrosting, and can be placed in different locations. Not expensive.
