How many gallons left in tank when you fill up?
#3
Because it's winter I try to fill up when it gets down to about 2 gallons left in the tank. In the fall when I got the car before winter hit, I filled up pretty much when the needle was at empty'ish or when the light came on.

Something isn't right. I think the gas station down the road from my house is cheating people on gas. I filled up a few hours ago within 2 miles after my low fuel light came on. I filled the tank up and it took 11.1 gallons to fill. Since the tank is 10.6 gallons and probably a half gallon more maybe in the neck, thats 11.1. I still had gas in the car (a little).

A related question: my old Chevy Cavalier had a fuel pump go out. The mechanic said it was because I let the tank run down all the way between fill ups, so the fuel pump could have sucked a little air once in a while. Since the pump is lubricated by the fuel itself, this wore it down. Thus, you should always fill up your tank at about 1/4 left.
The question: is this true or total BS?

heck yeah that's freak'n cheating. That's not right at all. you should have around a gallon left (9.6) when the light comes on. It's not TOTALLY rare that gas stations do illegal things...report 'em!

The other day I filled up with 10.4 gallons. Hmm. I was driving with the low fuel light on for a while. The needle at "E". When I filled up I simply stopped when the gas pump clicked off. I did not "top off".
I find it hard to believe that I really had 0.2 gallons in my tank.

This is "as I understand it to be."
