Shop Manual Help - how do you remove rear spoiler?

For anyone with a shop manual, can you relay the instructions for removing/installing the rear hatch spoiler? Mine was damaged and I need to replace it, but I want to know what is involved in changing it out.

Thanks in advance,

Mark

From the Service Manual:

================================================== ====
  • Take care not to scratch the body.
  • Use the appropriate tool from the KTC trim tool set to avoid damage when removing components.
  1. Pry up at the notches with a flat tip screwdriver wrapped in protective tape to release the hooks, then remove the lids from both sides.
  2. Remove the bolts.
  3. Lift up on the tailgate spoiler to detach the pins of the clips from the grommets, then remove the spoiler.
  4. Remove the grommets from the tailgate with snap ring pliers.
  5. If the grommets or pins are damaged or stress whitened, replace them. Always replace both the pin and the grommet if either is damaged.
  6. Install the grommets on the pins by pushing them into place.
  7. Install the spoiler in the reverse order of removal, and push the clips into place securely.
================================================== ====
So, basically, take the covers off (carefully) with a screwdriver, remove the bolts, pry up the spoiler to release the pins, and remove. Looks pretty straightforward.

Hope this helps.

Thanks a bunch. Seems very easy.

For anyone interested, there will be a SSM spoiler with a few very deep chips/scratches for sale for cheap once I receive my new one.

What happened to your old spoiler?

I backed out the garage before the door had openned fully and gouged/scratched the edge of the spoiler. I'd normally try and live with it, but it's dead center and too deep for just touch-up paint. Plus the car is only 4 months old, I can't have it look other than brand new at this point!

In the right hands, perhaps it could. And, while I'm quite handy, I'm no expert on body work and blending paint and wet sanding and clear coating and everything else that would be necessary to bring this back to perfect condition. Not to mention the time that it would take to do all of the above correctly.

Understandable. Good luck with the sale of the old spoiler.

Definitely get the new spoiler finished before installing it on the car.

You were fortunate the damage is to a removable part and not the roof panel itself.

If it were me, I'd have the original spoiler repaired and refinished professionally. I would skip the new spoiler unless the damaged one is cracked. You would save some cash, and the end result would be indistinguishable from the new spoiler you would have to refinish anyway.

I bet 1.5 hours labor time would cover the body work to the spoiler. How much is the new spoiler, and what would you hope to get for the damaged one?

SPOILER ASSY., TAILGATE *B548P* $221 at Bernardi - is that the part? Different colors available.

S***, if that's the case, go with that and don't even think twice.

That is exactly the case - pre-painted part, $234 shipped to my door, two bolts to remove. It simply is not cost effective to do myself or pay a shop to do it.
