I don't know how they pick World Car of the Year...to me that doesn't make sense, 'cause you're really picking through apples and oranges (and grapefruits and berries....)
Come on, Nissan GT-R vs. BMW 7 Series vs. Honda Fit???
They're totally different cars and totally different price ranges haha.

Good can translate into many things, such as how revolutionary or ingenious a certain car's feature is to its class and/or to the industry. Ex. the Fit's Magic Seats.
I keep posting this article which sums up the Fit's ingenuity:

Simple. How good is the car? Period.

This is one of my most favorite paragraphs in that article
it definitely nails why I think the GE (and all fits in general) is such a marvel
Ponder this for a moment. Then consider how, as the package shrinks, the difficulty in building a truly good car increases. How do you even find the space to engineer everything you need into a car the size of the Fit? So it can pass crash tests, so it's comfortable, so it's drivable, and so you can still build and sell it for less than $20,000? A nice luxury sedan that costs three times as much is inherently less impressive because it poses fewer challenges to engineers.

Here's another one, just in from Car and Driver...On their "High Fives" editor's choice lists, the Fit is #1 in their small car category:
