The USDM To JDM Taillight exchange program for GE's

Well, Tork and Squak pulled it off. Anyone else have some JDM tails that they want to swap for some USDM ones?

General Rule:
If you wish to be the first to receive, send a Paypal downpayment as a security deposit. Then, when you get your shipment, send the exchange and when they get theirs, they can refund you the money.

Tips from Tork:

I would guess it would be about the same..to ship FROM

At the time I was pegged with neg rep (over fighting back a little about GE bashers)

Squawking and others remarked I must be a bad guy and not trusted, so I paypaled him $100 deposit (which he returned when he got my tails)

Costs were the $59.50 + I paid for part of the inbound (so about $80-85 but he sent me a coin holder so I ended up at about $72 all things considered)

Advise for dealing with people (especially people from 1/2 a world away)
Be generous, be trustworthy, be polite, keep your word, show respect etc

You will probably deal with some great people!. Squawking 7500 is a great and likeable and intelligent guy. As are most, I know this from adopting my 2 daughters from China, and from doing business in various parts of Asia.

Some sort of deposit is a reasonable thing to do as they are sending their tail lights to you first (that could be an issue if they dont have a second set.)

dont be petty, complain or be rude and demanding or you could screw it up for everybody.....please dont. Include a gift when you ship your tails (I sent Fit and Civic USDM brochures)

Also as you find people to swap with, ask them to post this idea on their forums with a link to this thread, that will help grease the wheels so you can locate other swappers for the next guy.

hope this helps

I prefer the non-LED jdm tails as well. There have to be some owners across the Pacific just yearning for our USDM tails, right?

Michael,

Thanks for posting the 'Tork's Tips' LOL I added an addition comment here and later I can prolly post how to fill out the customs form for shipping the USDM's out, (it's pretty easy if you do it online)

Remember that if you were to buy JDM base tail lights NEW, (with the Yen being so high right now)
you are looking at $300-$400 plus at least $60+ shipping.

The swap in theory is FREE but the BIOTCH is that international shipping is expensive and really no way around that.

Mike

Hello my friend,
Well when we posted pics of our tail light swap, many people took notice and want to do the same thing.

Could you start a thread on your forum about USDM guys wanting to swap? and on any other forum you can think of.

Here is a thread Mikejet started because of our pics. Most of the people in that thread I know fairly well and they are good people, no worries.

Warmest regards
Mike

My tail lights were sent to the US about 3 weeks ago to a fit freak member. I sold them for $100.

I'm sure that there is no DOT marking on them. They dont have side reflectors (which may be part of the reason they look so good.
No cop will notice this.

Tork,

Can you post in the trade thread specifics about fitment and how hard/easy they are to install?

Thanks,
Mikejet
Easy just need a 10MM wrench or a deeper well socket, 3 nuts each. (once the access panels are removed) but leave this til after you get the plugs undone

Unplugging, got to trip the release tab wiggle and pull,
if you have an issue, 1/4 turn the socket and pull the whole socket/bulb/plug out of the tail light.

They are plug and play, however the bulbs are located in different positions, so on one pass side plug I had to undo the black tape around the end of the corragated wire protector and stretch the wires a little.

picture of a removed USDM may be helpful
