Spare Tire Compartment

I was putting a few things in the back of my Fit for the first time and noticed how thin the board is that covers the spare tire. In the futur I will filling the back with some heavy stuff.

So my question for you all is.... has anyone came up with a mod or have any ideas for what i can do to strengthen that thin peiece from breaking....

the GD3 has the same thin piece of material back there. I have put 1000 lbs on mine and it did not even bend or bow. I think you will be just fine.

you should be fine as long as the spare it there.
basically the spare is it's foundation. it rests right on it.

If it still concerns you, you could replace the board with a thick piece of wood. But like the others said, it is likely not nessasary.

A 1000 pounds?! Guess you proved that 850 pound capacity limit wrong huh?

Yeah, I think the problematic issues go well beyond stressing out the cover piece, if you are hauling that kind of weight back there.

Been thinking about replacing it myself. Was thinking it might be interesting to put in some clear Lexan so that you could see the spare (and the sub I built into it!)

Depending on how heavy the stuff is, try plywood cut to shape. Ours is 3/4" and we put really heavy stuff on it. (and whty we have Airlift rear shocks).

Using a thick board like that could be dangerous in a rear end collision. Think about it before changing things like that.
