Weapon R Cold Air Intake Review

I just saw the PRM review, so I figured I'd post mines also.
I've been running the semi-final product cold air intake in my car for almost a week now and the difference in the CAI and the short ram is noticable. I generally drive the car in the day time and recently the weather has been nice. The added heat in the engine bay compared to the cooler air coming from the front of the bumper made a slight difference. While this is not a HOLY SHIT! Difference, there was a small difference in pull at around 2.5-3.5rpms under normal driving that was defintely noticable. I'm not sure if it has anything to do with anything, but previously with the stock intake I was only able to slightly chirp the tires shifting from 1st to 2nd with VSA off. Now with VSA on, I'm still able to chirp from 1st to 2nd pretty hard. Might have been weather conditions, different road, who knows. That was the first thing I noticed when I did a short video run.
From being at Weapon R while doing the test fitting and the work to make this intake put out power, I know that there was a difference from the Dyno. Having run the SRI for over a month and the CAI now for just under a week, I'm very satisfied with the intake. I won't compare this one to the T1R or the PRM as I haven't seen in person or tested the other ones. So far, I am very satisfied with this intake. Anyone in the Bay Area that wants to check it out, hit me up. I have some vids of the runs I did so you can hear how it sounds. I'll post them up this weekend along with the pics of it installed.

Seems strange to have a cone filter facing sideways. Definitely a no drive for rainy days, and wonder about heat off the radiator adversely affecting performance or the filter itself. Just observations.

lol those are my pics i emailed to Leo at Weapon R.
here's the sound clips i promised
YouTube - Weapon R CAI Test Runs

i've also got a few better pics i just took yesterday when I was doing my mesh grill. I'll post those up later this week.

BTW, that's the AC it's in front of, not the actual radiator. Cool to the touch after a few test runs.

I would love to have one as well, just the no-drive on rainy days kinda ruins it for me.

Is weapon R planning on making a water bypass for the intake? If so I may be interested.

Not sure. The main guy I was dealing with is out of the country at the moment. He comes onto this board every now and then, so he may be able to chime in. I think if they changed the filter to an oil element filter, it would be less worry in driving in the rain. I'm actually not too worried about rain driving once I swap the filter out for a traditional K&N type oil element filter.

I guess if you were handy, you could cut the down pipe and put in a water bypass.

It never floods here, so I'm not too worried about a water bypass. Only thing I would want is an oil based filter for water that splashes.

The only thing that concerns me is getting behind a truck on the highway and getting the jet of water going right onto the filter. If an oiled filter would alleviate this issue, then I am all for it. Price for CAI and filter (Or an idea)?

Yea, a K&N type oil'ed filter would keep almost all water from getting in. The only time water would get sucked in would be if the filter is submerged.
Not sure on price. I'm not affiliated with Weapon R in anyway besides being the test vehicle, so I wouldn't want to speculate on price as I could be way off.

Ouch, according to the Weapon R website, this intake is $2,005. I REALLY hope that is a typo.

EDIT: It does look like a typo as the other intakes are listing for $205. Unfortunately, the email that they have listed for contact isn't accepting mail. Curses!

It's a CAI and SRI in one. So you can switch to SRI when it floods. I think there are SRI posted elsewhere. I'll try to find them later this week if someone else doesn't post it first.

Is there any way to find out when this CAI will be available from Weapon R? I still can't get email through.

They don't have a specific ETA yet.
All they could tell me was soon. My guess is probably end of this month, early next month. Just in time for the nice weather. lol

BTW, it rained pretty well yesterday and my trek in the rain was uneventful. When I got home, I checked the piping right behind the filter and it was 100% dry. While I didn't go spashing around in puddles or anything, the outside of the filter was slightly wet, but the inside felt dry. So far so good.
