No engine temp gauge?

Hey everyone, great site.

Just reading as much as I can so I will be able to decide whether to trade my 00 civic ex in for a new Fit.

One thing I noticed is there isn't an engine temp gauge. Is this true or am I missing something?

Not having an engine temp gauge would make me VERY uneasy since your engine can live and die by that reading. The light alone is notorious for coming on when it's far too late in hondas so I don't rely on them.

I suppose if it really bothered me, I could hook up an autometer gauge.

Anyways, that's my question....does it have a gauge or am I reading into everything correctly?

Thanks everyone.

sorry no temp gauge.
a autometer would fix the problem like you said or a scangauge.

There is a light to tell you when its cold. It turns off when its warm and there is a red one to tell you when its hot.

Oh really? That seems like over complicating things to me. Shoulda just threw a gauge in. Oh well.

Usually you would want to avoid it reaching the hot zone.

Without a guage you can't tell whether its getting there or not.

Especially for someone who loves to track their cars like me.

I'm saving up for a Defi Racer guage for water temp...

...
You took the words right out of my mouth. Most Hondas run at normal operating temp just below halfway on a gauge. If it gets past half, you know something is wrong and to be very cautious and take the necessary precautions (turn on heater to cool engine/engine bay, find a safe spot to pull off etc.)

Who knows where honda has that light come on. It could be once it's buried in the red. I'm not comfortable with that at all.

but how accurate is the stock gauge in most hondas? not very accurate. with the scangauge it gives you a digital reading. not an analog gauge

Agreed. I have a fully built turbo integra. While I was getting tuned, we waited to see how long before the stock gauge started moving while the engine heated up. It took far too long to show any movement.

I wouldn't trust that thing as far as I could throw it.

yeah. i'd recommend the scanguage too. plus you'd get a whole bunch of other information out of it.
