09' Fit - A quieter ride

I just noticed something after opening the doors on my 09' Fit. Each of the doors have double door seals. The A post is very tight and I believe this new design is measurably quieter than prior year models.

I did have the undercarriage sealed before I bought the 09' Fit. I don't know why some people are claiming that these new 09' Fit's are noisy.

I totally disagree.

What say you?

the 09 has a bouncier ride than the 08....especially my 08
with endura-techs.

So far its much quieter than the 98 saturn it replaced. Its still on stock rims, tires, and suspension. I don't think it needs any sound dead at this point. That said I am keeping my eye out for some fireproof foam or fabric fill.
Also, I'm not a stranger to sound deadening. I fully dynamated my Second gen Scion xB because it was so loud. (It IS lowered and on rubber band tires : ))

Quieter yet

I suppose your comparing the ride of the 09' Fit with that of a 2009 Rolls Bentley? When comparing the ride of the 09' Fit with that of my old 2005 Ford Focus, the Focus is way noisier. In fact, I bought the 2005 Ford Focus to keep me awake! So, in sum, the 2009 Fit rides WAY more quieter than any other car I'm used to driving.

Our other car is a 2002 VW Passat GLX, so the Fit is definitely a whole lot louder than that.

Decent bump impact harshness. So for me it's a relatively smooth and surprisingly quiet ride, especially for this class of car with this level of handling.

Its a louder ride than my CL-S was and my TSX is but those are Acura and have tons of sound deadening in them (plus each almost 1K heavier)
I thing just a layer of sound deadening behind the firewall would create miracles because I mostly just hear the engine. Not complaining though.

Keeping engine noise in perspective

Now that we're mostly all agreed that the 09' Fit is MUCH quieter than a Harley , I would like to just say that I need some kind of noise or I would be put to sleep. It goes without saying that total silence screaming down the road would be an absolute bore.

I would like to add that the stupid advertisements for Volvo that appear every now and then are totally unacceptable. Is Honda being bought out be Volvo?

after 38K in my 07 sport and 7K in my 09

09 = less road noise but the motor is louder, which i do not mind

tork- could it have been the tires by any chance on your 07???

in my case since i run the megan axle back anyway, it's already
pretty noisy so i dont mind.

The engine on the '09 is louder, but slightly more powerful across the entire torque curve, thanks to i-vtec. I'm not complaining one bit. GE Fit engine buzz is my friend, LOL.

Is it the motor that's louder or simply the exhaust?

All i hear on the 09 is exhaust.

I think engine is louder because of the 'cast in head exhaust manifold'
To me it makes the engine sound sorta horizontally opposed (a bit like Subaru or Porsche)

I like it, not buzzy to me

KenChan
Dunlops on both my 07 and 09 (different models granted)

I think less road and wind noise because of 6-7 year newer design!

These are the reasons the engine sounds a little louder, different and IMHO quite good,
that inhead manifold is just a couple of inches away from the dash and under the front of the windshield.

cast in head, header

^^what the exhaust ports look like inside the head

resonator intake manifold

I agree. I can't tell if the motor is actually louder or if there is less sound deadening in the firewall.

I like the engine note. It's something Honda always excel at. The overall noise at motorway speeds wears a bit thin though.
