Looking to buy in Sep/Oct - '09? or should I wait a bit for 2010's
I'm going to be honest and say I'm really new to the idea the car exists to begin with, but I've become more and more stoked through researching it the past few weeks (obviously, as I'm here); and buying it has become a pretty definite decision.
That being said, I've been told there won't be many (if any) differences between the '09 Fit Sport and the 2010's; but I'm wondering if any of you guys have any good reasons to wait for the 2010's, or should I just do my best to locate an '09 in the fall.
Thanks! Hopefully before too long I'll have some pictures up here

Only Honda knows, and they're not talking, but I'd be surprised if there were any significant changes between '09 and '10 models. The '09 was totally redesigned compared to the '08, so I can't imagine Honda will do much different for next year. Maybe a new color or two, and a little shuffling of equipment groups, but the major change was for '09.
I myself am waiting until the end of December to get a '10, that's usually when you can get the best deals as they are trying to meet their yearly sales goals (which I bet they will be desperate to do this year, especially).
If you do plan on getting an '09 in the fall though, just make sure you're not paying more than what the car has depreciated simply because of its model year. For example, say the Fit Sport AT is $16,501 invoice and has depreciated to $16,001. Make sure you get that fair deal or else you're paying more than you should be.
Or you can buy a used 09 with low miles, allowing that first owner to take the huge depreciation hit and save a LOT more.

As above since the 2009 was revamped it is a good bet that the 2010 will be much the same. I would wait for a 2010 because once they come out
your 2009 is a year older already. December is the best time to buy so they will make a better deal trying to get rid of inventory. Make sure you ask for floor mats at least included in the deal. If you don't have to use a front plate tell them not to drill holes in your body kit and you don't want the dealership logo on the back - makes it look cleaner. Just remember to post up pictures when you get your car and stay on this forum so when you get your car you will already know what you need. You'll end up knowing more than your salesman when you go for your test drive.

i was in the same predicament about a month ago. i didn't need the car until october, so i had to decide between waiting or proceeding with a purchase. i decided to go ahead and buy for several reasons.
first, my wife and i were very excited about getting the car. this is probably not a very good reason, but significant nonetheless.
second, i have noticed that the dealers in my area have not received any new fits for several months. i believe that honda has drastically curtailed production and is running down the inventory of fits in the USA. this will make the fit more costly and difficult to find in the future.
third, we wanted a taffeta white fit with navigation. i looked online at the inventories of 6 dealers in our area and there were only 2 of these available. honda has dropped taffeta white in the past. i also saw that in general there don't seem to be a lot of fits with navigation in any color in my area. it would be very frustrating to wait only to find that the desired vehicle was not available or only available at a premium price.
fourth, i was concerned that gas prices might go up again, which seems to trigger a run on the fits. right now this does not seem very likely, but it could still happen.
fifth, i was able to secure a deal at invoice price, which i thought was fair.
sixth, the US dollar seems to be losing ground against the japanese yen. this is why honda bumped the msrp up 200 bucks in december. there could be a substantial price increase in store for 2010.
the bottom line is that i was able to get a fair price for the vehicle i wanted, so i decided to move forward rather than face the uncertainty of waiting.

supposedly the 2010 is going to have the hybrid option in the US, cheaper than the insight. bumped up from 2012. clickly clickly
Honda Fit purchase
I say go out and buy one right now....there are many available. Here is some new good news to add to all the rest.
Here in our town we just had a terrible hail storm....large and damaging hail. We have thousands of cars that have suffered very bad damage. The major car insurance companies all have tents and damage inspection stations set up here, and they will be here for weeks to evaluate each car damaged.
I talked with the Geico rep today.......almost all Toyota Prius were badly damaged....that back window blew out almost immediately in the hail. We were lucky....both of our cars were under cover, but I wondered how the Honda Fit did fare with damage....esp the large front window. The insurance rep told me that he had seen very little damage to any Fits, and none had problems with the windshield. This is another good sign of Honda quality.

I don't see why you should wait if money isn't a concern. It's just a question of whether you want the car now or later.
If you're worried about a facelift or minor model change to the GE chassis, I'd guess it'll happen in the third quarter of 2010, sold as a 2011 model. Knowing Honda, there's a reason why they call it a "minor model change" - the upgrades really are relatively minor. I'd foresee a slightly different bumper and light design for GEs down the road, plus maybe some upholstery changing, but that's about it...hybrid drivetrain notwithstanding.
Go buy it already!
Good luck!

I got my 07 Fit in October of 06. So the 2010 should be out by October 09. The only reason I would get the 2010 is because 09 was a complete overhaul so with the new 10 they would have all the kinks worked out
a couple of folks have stated that it's not a good idea to buy a redesigned vehicle during the first model year it is available because there could be problems with the new design. i generally agree with this conservative approach and had considered this myself. however, the redesigned fit went on sale in japan in 2007, so i feel that the "first year" rule is not applicable in this situation. while it is true that the usa fit has a few differences from the japan fit, most of the major systems are the same and have undergone real-world testing in japan since 2007.

Yeah, if you can afford it, just do it. Either that, or wait and see if gas prices ebb a bit after the end of summer.
I bought a 2nd gen CR-V in 2002, the first year of the redesign. There were only 2 small interior changes in the 03: dedicated coat hooks on the rear door grab handles and a slight enlarging of one of the two center console storage bins so that it could accomidate CDs. It wasn't until later in it's production cycle that anything significant happened (new grille, extra gear in the auto, different front/rear lights). Any changes to the 10 Fit should be VERY minor.

The local dealer has more fits than I can recall. They even had a sport model 5 speed on the lot. First time I have seen one. Just the car I wanted, but wrong color. I hope to test drive it later, I have drove the auto. I agree probably no difference between 09-10.

Uncle Gary is right that there will be near zero changes initially to the 2010 Fit except for some extra accessories as far as I have been told from my Honda DSM. I noticed you were from T.O. and I will tell you that waiting until December to buy an '09 isn't most likely going to happen. The dealers in Canada have had some extremely strong months for sales. A friend of mine in Hamilton had his best month for sales since 2002 this past June (23 new 1 used). I am also speculating there won't be any huge incentives on the Fit no matter when or what you decide to purchase. My suggestion is to either buy an '09 by late summer or you may not get one at all or as some guys are saying buy the 2010 in December since its the new styles second year (in Canada) either way I don't see a huge difference except for maybe a couple hundred bucks (MSRP ddifference) after the initial change-over. When you do purchase, here's a tip, most dealers in the GTA will sell a Fit for $200-$500 over dealer net if they have it in stock. I hope this helps.

Actually, the GE was introduced a year earlier in the Japanese market as an '08 model, so, technically, the U.S. car is a second year model.
