Edmunds I.L.: Fit is "like a naughty little boy"

Pretty good entry except for some tiddy-babies in the comments who miss their security blankets...

2009 Honda Fit Sport: Little Rascal

OK, I have to admit, last night was my first time in our new Honda Fit Sport. I haven't really been avoiding it as much as I've managed to choose other cars for the night. But most of our staffers like it so I figured it was high time to give it a go.

It's like a naughty little boy: somewhat untidy and mischievous but not a bad kid. And you have to drive it. There's something to be said for having to engage with your vehicle.

I found all three pedals to be positioned strangely low to the floor and they felt mushy. But the clutch engages quickly and is easy on the leg muscles. The wobbly shifter has loooong throws. Where's 5th gear? Oh, hello, over there. How's the weather?

Overall, it's a fun little devil.

Not too long ago, the throws would be considered pretty short.

Besides, to me it feels like you're more involved with the shifting than a short throw one. There's more of a positive action with a longer throw. I'm not saying the throws should be long, just not too long, not too short.

They're long throws for a honda transmission, I would agree with that.

Unhappy Look at the comments . . .

Lots of haters on there.

Now everyone thinks Fits are deathtraps because of the recent publicity.

I guess they all think we should be driving Escalades, Silverados, and Suburbans.

Just wait until gas goes back up to $4+. And it will.

The comments at edmunds are entertaining.

Changing gears is a breeze. Yes, it has to do with a little wobble, and a little longer than other sports cars. Finding 5th is not a problem! Not realizing that your in 5th is!

Well, shit. Among the reasons I bought a Fit were what Consumer Reports called 'impressive crash safety'. What the hell happened to that?

Yeah, it will. Gas is already around $2.30 here, and going up.

this lady got it all wrong. the pedals are positioned strangely CLOSE to the driver. the feel is normal, throttle is abit nervous. the clutch engages about normal and the shifter throw is about normal.

she needs to go drive a more broader variety of cars.
