Tail twitch under heavy braking?

Several times now, I have noticed that the rear of the Fit wants to take a half-step sideways under very heavy braking. The last two times the tail has kicked to the left.
I have experienced this at moderate speed (<40) when someone has pulled out in front of me. Sometimes the antilock has cycled; we're talking dry pavement and going straight ahead before hitting the brakes.
(WHY these doofi persist in pulling out is a question for another time...)

The question...has anyone else experienced this? Grabby brake, improper proportioning?
I realize that there isn't much weight on the rear tires, especially when braking shifts the weight forward.
Whattaya think?

i haven't experienced this on the fit, but in my old car that happened, and i found that it was the proportioning valve for the brakes, that would be my best guess

I have not experienced this on the new FiT yet.
Believe the brake proportioning valve is the culprit in your case assuming that all your tires are properly inflated.

Any further info on the proportioning valve? Where it's located? Troubleshooting?
Thnx,

I experienced this today. Several light tail swerves when hard braking on the interstate. Back and forth, back and forth motion. Just in the tail.

I can't help but wonder if a small amount of this is normal given the solid rear axle. I think I experience a very moderate amount of that kind of swaying often enough.

I've been crowing about this since last September. However, I've only experienced this when it was new. Maybe I haven't encountered panic braking since. But this Fit's handling trait is understeer followed by oversteer under braking. The rear is light and stiff, so if you brake suddenly while twitching the wheel to the right the tail wants to come around to the left.

Yes, this isn't the most confidence-inspiring trait. Just be careful not to steer sharply while panic braking out there with this car.

Im not very concerned about it. I wouldnt have really thought much of it had i not browsed by this forum. Not really that bad, just worth a post it note in the back of my mind.

The car is very stable at highway speeds, not twitchy from bad tires or slightly misaligned--like some people report.

Note that my car is brand new with under 500 miles on it, still in the break in period.
