Clicking noise when engine is idling

Hi,

I just picked up a blackberry pearl, Fit Sport auto 2009. I'm absolutely, positively, completely in love with it. With that said, I've been obsessing over the creaks and other noises the car makes. I've only had it about 400 miles --- barely even a full tank of gas yet.

My concern is with the engine. There's a fairly loud clicking noise constantly emanating from the engine. It's faint when I'm in the car with the windows up, however, it's very distinct when the car is idling with the hood up. Am I overacting or is this something I should look further into?

Thanks in advance!

If you are really concerned, you can always take it back to the dealer to have them take a look at it

Mine does the same thing. It can be the injectors or it could be the valvetrain that we're hearing. Keep in mind that this car has no hydraulic lash adjusters, so there is a bit of clearance, or lash, in the valvetrain by design, so it may be a bit of valvetrain tick that you're hearing, as well.

Nothing to worry about IMO.

Thanks for all the replies. I guess I'm just overreacting. It's my first real car and I've only had it about 5 days!

I would just take it in and have Honda look at it anyways. Then you'll hear from them exactly what it is and maybe you'll get a car wash out of it! ;] haha

PLEASE dont ever advise anybody to have their car washed by the dealer. Although that just keeps customers coming my way. Those dimwits have no idea what theyre doing and they just want to get people in and out as soon as possible. They use that big stiff bristle brush on the car. The same one that has been set on the floor to pick up rocks. The same one theyve used on ALL the cars that same day. The same one they use to get dirt and grime off of other cars they are rubbing into your paint.

Check out brand new cars in the dealership. They all have tons of swirls before even leaving the dealership. I took my car home with the plastic and told them if they wash it, I wouldnt buy it. 99% of car owners wash their cars incorrectly. Dealerships will do crazy amounts of damage to the cars paint as they dont use 2 buckets, grit guards, soft mitts or microfiber towels.

As for the clicking noise, its normal.

^yes what he said.

do not let them wash your car. you need to specifically tell them not to wash your car, and even then, they will still do it sometimes. they will likely also snap plastic clips, put scratches in your car, and little dings/dents here and there. i can say HONESTLY, that i've been to different dealerships at least 5 times (toyota, honda, ford) and every single time, without fail, they have managed to f*ck something up.

the dealership is your car's worse nightmare so don't "just bring it in to get it checked out." the clicking/ticking is normal unless it's like a monstrous noise that you can never miss. if it's just something you hear parked at a light with the radio off, don't worry about it.

If i EVER have to take the car to the dealer, it goes in with a BIG sign taped to the steering wheel center saying "DO NOT WASH CAR!". I've had an 8 hour detail job RUINED by a dealer on more than one occasion (I forgot the sign, or they ignored it).
