scratches - touch up paint or rubbing compound?

I have a couple of nicks and minor scratches on my black 09 Fit Sport. Just wondering if anyone knows whats the best way to treat it. If I were to use the OEM touch up paint, do I have to prep the car before using this pen?

I've read some good reviews for Scratch-x and this Turtle Wax Premium Rubbing Compound
link: Amazon.com: Turtle Wax T-415 Premium Rubbing Compound: Automotive

Does anyone have experience with these? Thanks

Don't use rubbing compound on a new car. It's too abrasive.

If you must use a compound then use a polishing compound instead. Much less abrasive.

what about for taillights? I tinted mine and need to know, should I use rubbing/polishing compound like the clearcoat bottle said to?

Here's the official video from the touch up paint manufacturer. Stangely they stop before finishing the job. Probably because they don't want you to see that you will never be able to do a perfect job with touch up paint. Their technique is very similar to this one, though. So it's probably the best technique out there. I did the last one and had decent results. Of course it's not invisible, but much better than before and now it's protected.
