how to get tree sap off black paint easily?

If I ever bump into the guy that approved sapping trees for parking lot shade, I'll probably go to jail...

try Peanut Butter.....seriously, it gets off road tar 100% of the time without hurting the paint

get some on a cloth, rub it in, and then rub it off

There are specific products designed for removing sap and bug guts and stuff...You can find a few at pep boys and stuff, and they sound less risky than peanut butter, hah

i use rubbing alcohol, like 70%. just put some on the corner of a clean terry towel, push it onto the sap spot for a minute, then wipe off with a dry part. The alcohol will loosen the sap, and not hurt the paint. Just be sure to rewax the spot you did. Be sure to not rub hard, or you will definitely scratch the paint, especially black.

Detailing Clay removes regular tree sap easily.

The dreaded rubber cement that falls from pine trees is another story. I've had the best luck using Citrus based cleaners like Goo B Gone. Don't use Goof Off, it's harmful to some plastics. Keep it away from the headlights and foglights.

Pine sap removed with 70% rubbing alcohol

Thanks 743power, rubbing alcohol worked perfectly. I first had to use a knife
to (carefully) remove most of each blob of sap. Then I softened the remaining
sap with a paper towel soaked in alcohol for several seconds. Then I gently
rubbed the sap off with the towel. No paint damage!

WD40 baby. Spray a quarter size amount on a microfibre towel a few times and it should take it out. After removal, polish and wax couple of times.

Good work getting it off. I got sapped once during a windstorm and my dark blue civic was covered in the stuff. Took hours with googone to get it off.
