My Fit has friends!

Well, it seems my exclusivity was short-lived as someone 3 blocks down just got an orange (forgot the name) Fit Sport and another person was driving around in a red one. It's kinda surprising considering I live in a nice, gentrified old neighborhood with lots of doctors and lawyers and other professionals. It's good to see the Fit's quality escaping the econobox label and being driven by people who could certainly afford much more car...

I've been seeing a few more around here, but they're still pretty rare.

By the way, my neice lives in Shreveport.

Cool! Well, people have a short memory for gas prices here. Last summer, my dealer couldn't keep 08 Fits in stock. Heck, I don't think they could even get them to sell. But they loaded up on 09s and they hadn't budged until recently. My car was only the second 09 I had seen off the dealer lot. Matter of fact, my car sat on the lot for more than 5 months. Now all the sudden that's doubled in 2 day's time and that doubling has been courtesy of cars in my own neighborhood!

Summer's here, Fits will be rolling off the lots again, and SUV's on the curbside with FOR SALE signs.

Yeah, well, in my neighborhood, gas prices are an annoyance but I did't really see too many people trading in their bigger vehicles. Heck, I just got a new Odyssey a few months back for the wife. I'd say it's anything but thrifty. I just happen to have a 60+ mile one-way commute so it made real sense for me when looking for another car.

I was in the dealership looking at the Fit and even the salesman was telling me that most people that want the Fit actually end up buying the civic... He goes on about how most people that are looking for an economy car thats good on gas look for the Fit but then end up with the civic because of how much more affordable the civic is!

The two are comparable in price depending on the model. You an get a really cheap Fit or a really pricey Civic. I think the main reason people pick a Civic over a Fit, at least in the US, is a.) the Civic's reputation as a great car and b.) the fact that it's a sedan. A lot of people still associate a cheap stigma to hatches. I would have been happy with either. But I really like the versatility of the Fit and it's hatch.
