Got an 08 Civic EX in the garage, I usually drive the FIT as it is a lot more fun. Not that the Civic isn't a sweet car, it really is. It just seems homoginized and compromised to appeal to 400,000 US buyers a year so the personality is muted.
Jeeze, you guys who change cars like I change socks...
Of the stuff in our garage, the XJ Jeep is 10 years old, the VW is eight, and the TJ Jeep is six...tho' the less senior Fit gets garage space over the oldest Jeep.
It sounds like the OP did just fine, financially, on his exchange, but the usual deal on too-frequent changes is ending 'upside-down', with a car worth less than the debt attached to it.
Not meaning to be a scold, and I'm glad it's working in this case.
Hell, we're having problems parting with the oldest Jeep, mostly because we're really attached to it.

I was looking into a Civic EX and Si for the wife shortly after taking delivery of the FiT. She found the FiT easier to drive, so we dropped the idea.
That meant money for more mods for the FiT.
Good luck with your Civic and do let us know your ownership and driving experience with it.

halfmoon - yah, i agree with ya if you want a car just for transportation.
some of us buy cars as a toy so it's the fun factor that makes it
worthwhile... it's sometimes mutually exclusive to the street
value of the car.
if it's worth it to us, we buy.

All that said, I've spent some money on cars over the years, but if I like something well enough to buy it, then I like it well enough to keep it for a good, long time. That usually works out better financially as well.

halfmoon- yah, i agree that 'newer' doesnt necessarily mean 'better.'
my hobby cars are getting pretty old too. they look brand new still
though.
i still luv them like the day i bought the cars.

New Civic is sweet... it's a hard decision between Civic and Fit... both excellent choices, can't go wrong with either one.
Personally, I think the Civic is more refined and better materials on the interior than the 09 Fit.

Going from a Fit to a Civic seems like a step down to me, unless feature content is your priority. It's not much fun to drive (other than the SI), and it's a sedan, which makes it infinitely less useful than the Fit. I don't like the whole center digital speedometer thing either, I could not stand looking at it every day.
It's a Honda so of course it's well made, reliable, and fuel efficient, but there is zero emotion with that car. A Civic is strictly a point A to point Z type of car, the Fit is all about enjoying the rest of the letters on your drive.

My car salesman insisted that I test drive a Civic before I bought my Fit - I test drove it but I swear I felt that the Fit was funnier to drive plus I felt it held to the road and in curves better than the Civic. The Civic is a great car but I guess the Honda Fit will always go down in my car owning history is the first car that I modded out and loved so much to put over $1300.00 in Mugen and JDM parts on it. Oh yeah all at the old age of 53!!!
Cat :x :-D

My wife is actually in the market for a new car now. I think she wants an 08 Mazda3 sedan though..
