a conundrum
a conundrum
Hey to everybody - I lurk around here and post occaisionally on the 8thgen civic site. I just bought an 08 Civic Ex sedan in February after driving a bunch of cars.
I researched the Fit a lot ahead of time and thought it was the one for me until I drove it. I had a 2002 Civic coupe at the time and was looking to 'upgrade'. It was noisy and weak. I drove the Fit, and it was noisy and weak too, so I took it off the list.
I ended up with the civic because it was waaay quieter than my '02, and had plenty of pickup. I have since dropped $$ on seat covers, floormats, stereo all that stuff. And here I read about the 09 Fit. It's supposed to deal with a lot of the issues I didn't like about the 08 Fit- Noisy bumpy ride, weak engine, etc.
Here I am, less than 5 months into this new ca, and I'm wondering if I should trade 'er in for the new Fit when it comes out. If prices are the same as current Fits, I would actually pay less each month, but I think I would be losing money overall.
Has anyone else found themselves in this situation before? I really like the Fit a lot, and think that it would fit my lifestyle (dog owner) waaay better than the civic (plus, I discovered that i hate driving an automatic).
Or should I wait for the CR-z Hybrid??

Let me give you this quik tip.
The CRZ is not going to be a hybrid, or come in a Hybrid and its not going to be called the CRZ, it will called the CR(cant say it). Europe and Japan are the only ones getting the hyrbid version of that car. We are still getting the car, just regular gas engine.

I just read in C&D that the CR-Z will have a Hybrid option, and the recent announcement by Honda seems to confirm that as well - "To expand hybrid sales, Honda will introduce a new sporty hybrid based on the CR-Z model, a Civic hybrid and the previously-mentioned hybrid model of the Fit subcompact, in addition to the new hybrid going on sale next year, Takeo Fukui said.":vtec:
Anyways, I was just looking for opinions from those that have bought a vehicle and regretted (sorta).

Oh no.... they arent really gonna do what i think your sayin there gonna do
I cant tell if thats sarcasm or what.
Anyway, you dont have to belive me. Just dont be shocked when the new "CRZ" is called a "CRX" when it hits US shores. With a Civic Si K20 and 6SP trans.;)

you can't just toy with peoples' emotions like that. if we don't get a revived cr-z/x with a k20 + 6spd, you're going to make me one :p
i read an article from autoblog.com that re-confirms a hybrid option of the cr-z/x. it didn't mention which continents will see the hybrid, but it did go onto saying how strong hybrid sales are for the NA market. I doubt Honda, or any automaker for that matter, can ignore those kinds of dollar signs.

Belive me if that comes through my Fit will be gone the day it hits US shores.

oh man, you'd better believe that if we do get a cr-z/x si (k20 + 6spd) i'm driving straight to the dealership to trade in my Fit.
However, isn't the cr-z/x a 2+2 seater? with the addition of an si trim, what will happen to all the civic si coupe's? i don't mean to question your credibility, nor your sources, but in a business/profitability perspective it just isn't making any sense. i will kick and scream until we see a cr-z/x si, and i really do hope it happens, but i'm not willing to hold my breath till it gets here -- it hurts too much :o

If you're Civic is not paid off or substantiall paid down you will lose money trading it in after 5 months. Unless you put a lot of money down you probably owe a few thousand more than it's worth, which will be added onto the new car. Many bank's don't like to loan out money when you'll be taking out even more than what the car is worth so if you do find you can get approved your interest rate will probably be out the roof. But if you think you'll be happier in the Fit then by all means go for it. I had an 06 Civic DX that I kept for a year and traded in for a Fit sport with the same consequences I just listed.
You are right it doesn't make sense, coming from the same company that dropped the RSX because people were buying the cheaper Civic SI, to get essentially the same thing
It was, as long as they do it right it should be a hit.

I owe about $12,000 on my EX. This is my main concern - being upside down on the loans. When I lookup an 07 Civic with the same options/mileage, it comes out $16-17k trade in and 18.5-19.5k private. Assuming I could actually get that, I think that I might be okay. Its just really sucks not being really happy with a car you have to drive 40 miles to work and back everyday.
not to sound like a jerk, but if youre always looking into the latest and greatest, youre never going to be satisfied with your car, and just end up spending and spending.
its hard for me to understand your mentality of "Its just really sucks not being really happy with a car you have to drive 40 miles to work and back everyday." when you made the choice to buy it in the first place, for good reasons (acceleration, ride quality).
maybe look at other cars outside of honda? the mazda2 might be making its way to our shores soon, not to mention ford is bringing over its fiesta and focus ST. the new scion xd has gotten some good feedback, and subaru is going to start bringing over their diesel lineup to our shores.
my recommendation, if you dislike your current car so much, sell it privately, buy a cheaper used car (02-03) that you are reasonably happy with (happier than your current car anyway, and preferably one with a MT tranny from the sounds of it), then in the future, if you see a car out in the market that you really like, test drive it along with 3 other cars in its class, and if it still tops your list, then get it. maybe get a fun used car, like a nissan 240 or a bugeye wrx wagon?
no point in jumping from new car to new car. but then again, its your money. have at it.
