Questions from a prospective FIT driver
Questions from a prospective FIT driver
Hello everyone, my name is Stephen. I am 20 years old and I am currently in China(temporarily for an internship). I live in Georgia and am a Senior at a University and I deliver Pizzas on the weekends. The car I use to deliver in was a 1998 Toyota Camry with 220k+ miles on it.
To my dismay, I received a phone call from my father that he sold it!
I had some strong feelings for that car...
Now I have to look for a new car. I really like the FIT for both its practicality and fuel economy. I also keep reading how "sporty" and "fun to drive" it is. Don't get me wrong, I'm a slow car fast kind of guy, but just how sporty and fun to drive is the FIT?
From the viewpoint of a delivery driver, I would constantly drive fast to deliveries, when I mean fast I don't mean high schooler trying to top out and race everyone, when I say fast I mean Speed limit +5-10mph and cornering as fast as and brake as little as possible; generally trying to maintain my momentum. How well does the FIT handle? I'm sure it handles better than my old Camry but by how wide a margin?
Also I am quite tall, 6'4", how large is the FIT in terms of driver side?
Does the fit have good back support?
Is it easy to get in and out quickly?
How much ground clearance does the FIT have? Will I be able to park with out worrying about scraping the bottom of the bumper?
Just how much difference is the base FIT from the "Sport"
I plan to get a manual; I have read allot of good things about the clutch and gear box. What do you guys feel about yours?
Additional insight is appreciated
Thanks, Stephen

Well Stephen,
I did a ton or research before I bought mine. I drive an 09 Black Fit Sport A/T and I absolutely love it.
It is very peppy and handling is very tight. Honestly, if you're looking for an answer to all of your questions just test drive one.
I'm 5'10 and have loads of headroom. The whole car is roomy, but it has a small exterior form. One of the things I love most about my car is the fact that it has no blind spots (well, none that I've noticed after a month of having it).
As far as base vs sport, I chose sport for a number of reasons. Improvements from the base to the sport include the Sport having Foglights, keyless entry, paddle shifters on A/T, 16" alloy wheels (they're nice!). The other guys at this forum could probably tell you more. Main thing that sold me on the sport was the standard keyless entry. Also, paddle shifters allow you to control your shifts much like a manual only you can pop in in D if you ever tire of clicking the paddles behind the wheel.
THe seats are comfy - have lots of back support. Its easy to get in and out of. Ground clearance is pretty good. You shouldnt have any problems unless the bumps are absolutely MASSIVE (unless you lower it). When you say "park without worrying about scraping the bottom of the bumper"..... you dont pull up to the curb do you? If you get this car (or any new car) consider stopping in the parking space before you hit the curb. That way you never have to worry about bumper scraping.
Ultimately, it will come down to a test drive for you. You'll experience how the car is to YOU.

It is not speedy, but I find it handles very nicely. I am 6'1" and have plenty of room, and the seats are very supportive. The handling and driving comfort is why I chose the Fit over all of its competitors, and I test drove them all. Nothing else compares in the price range.
i love my fit but i have to say this but my 09 ex gets way better mpg than my fitS but with the base model around 14,000 for ether fit or civic its up to your my pizza guy drives a fit and he likes it so its up to you
i dont think i want to receive my delivered pizza with all the
cheeze and toppings mashed up on the side of the box like
receiving mexican pizza at tacobell where the girl put the
box vertically into the bag.
LOL
you should get a yaris and drive slowly with no passion
for the sake of the pizza's.

i am average height and it feels like i am in a van
Does the fit have good back support?
my wife and i both felt fine driving 12 hours to michigan, and 12 hours back 2 days later... we usually have sore backs on long drives
Is it easy to get in and out quickly?
very easy, you don't fall in like most small cars
How much ground clearance does the FIT have? Will I be able to park with out worrying about scraping the bottom of the bumper?
i can't pull all the way to the bumper at work or i would definitely scrape, I just pull up to it, and my car still doesn't stick out of the parking spot as much as the cars around me
Just how much difference is the base FIT from the "Sport"
only cosmetic differences pretty much
also, I averaged 39 MPG to michigan and back from NC... that is actual calculated mileage, not what the car told me... I am not lightfooted and we drove 70-75 mph most of the way (speed limits were mostly 65-70)
