My fit has been hit!

This is a sad day in the life of my practically new Fit. Wedge took one in the face the other day from, I'm guessing, a poor, poor, douche bag parker (that of course did not leave a note). My car was parked on the street by my work--when I returned to pick it up at the end of the day I found that someone had, apparently, backed into it.

The front bumper now has a round dent in it with a 4-5 inch diameter, complete with scratches. There is a small scratch on the bottom edge of my headlight as well (barely noticeable, but still there). I filed a claim with my insurance this morning--I will post what the estimate comes out to be, just in case this happens to someone else in the future. I'm guessing it will cost in excess of $1000 to fix/replace everything. Thankfully there is no structural damage, or dangling components. My fog lights, as well, escaped harm.

My Fit is only 5 months old with 3,000 miles on it.

I will post some pics of the damage (need to borrow the camera from work) when I get a chance.

Oy vey...

sorry for your damage. People are douche bags.

Find out if any surrounding buildings have any security cameras. They probably won't be able to release it to you but they have to release it to the police. If you know for sure there is a security camera scanning that area tell your insurance and they should be able to retrieve the tape to catch the b*stard. Saves your insurance company money as well because they can go after them for the damage.

I park on the street outside of my house and everytime I see a kid with a bike he/she is near MY car. Out of ALL the places to ride their bikes in the neighborhood, they stand right next to my car with their bike. It's so annoying.

I'm putting my money on Porkins...he always gets in the way!

Jokes aside, that sucks!! I hate it when people do that! I've had my C350 for almost 2 months now and I already have a chip on my rear passenger side door at the bottom (I don't know how the hell that got there) and a small dent over my drivers side rear fender right on the arch line despite parking away from other cars or in super large spots...sucks when you go back to your car and some douche decides to pull up beside you when they have a million other spots that are closer!!!

You don't have any security cameras around?

Thanks everyone, really.

Porkins indeed! Or, maybe Biggs' 70's porn star 'stache got in the way and he couldn't see where he was going.

On kids on bikes: whenever I'm in the suburbs I'm watching my Fit like a hawk. I don't trust those little bas*ards one bit.

On cameras: unfortunately, it's a very residential area so there are no cameras to speak of. That would be nice...

Well, the estimator is swinging by today to take a look. I'm interested to see what he quotes the damage at--the parts themselves cost over $400.

Oy...

Actually, I am. Is there something I should know?

Haven't had trouble with them before, however.

I also had a recent shocker when my wife noticed a silver dollar sized dent on my rear passenger side door after eating at out local In-N-Out Burger. The next day I called a Las Vegas company called Recon Mobile Dent & Paint. The technician came to my house and for $160 they did some amazing work! Now you can't even tell there was a dent in my door and they didn't even have to touch up the paint!

Granted this a LV company but I'm sure there is some one like that in your area.

Ouch! Sorry to hear that.

I'm thankful for people who do leave notes. Last one I had that left me a note hit my Mitsu Diamante and dinged it. I called them back and just said "thanks for leaving a note and don't worry about the ding."

I also go my first scratch on mine at 904 miles. small scratches from the metal hook off a rubber tie strap. I don't like that feeling when something happens to a new toy. :-(

just be prepared to fight with them. all insurance companies look out for themselves first, regardless of whether or not you are their insured. One of the reputable body shops in town here stopped working with progressive because progressive wouldnt allow them to fix the car properly (i.e. forcing them to use less than acceptable parts).

When my accord was rear ended 18 mos ago, it was hit with 11800 mi on the clock (6mo old). By the time I got home (I was in SLC at the time), the car had over 12k on it. The person who hit me was insured by progressive. It took me a number of phone calls to get them to provide an OEM bumper, because their policy is that once the car has 12k mi or more, they go aftermarket, regardless of age.

Just be prepared.
