Rear Drums Not Shiny Anymore

Did a tire pressure check this morning and noticed there isn't a gloss on the drums anymore (13,000 miles on it). Is there anything I can do to make it shiny again. If you've ever looked at old corollas and ford tauri (what's the rule for plurals of weird sounding nouns anyways?), they're all rusted and nasty looking. I'm guessing the gloss is some kind of clearcoat so what could I use that won't be affected by high heat?

spray paint them with a gloss black paint. and it isnt due to heat, its due to the sun and age.

Spray paint will work. Get some silver Rustolium.

Get some high temp paint (e.g. engine block) and give them a new coat.

I sprayed them when I painted my calipers. Use Duplicolor caliper paint

Steel wheels rarely ever come with decent paint. They are designed to have hubcaps installed so realistically, the quality of the paint matters very little. They just need enough "quality" to get the cars off the lot.

High heat paint (caliper paint etc...) is designed for much more extreme conditions than the paint used on wheels. (wheels only really get hot when a caliper or drum locks and the pad is dragging all of the time.)

Another vote for Caliper paint.

Love the blue drums and calipers with the white exterior! That blue reminds me a lot of the air cleaner housing on old Fords. I believe we called it "Motorcraft Blue."

blyndgesser Thanks. This is a Duplicolour kit. I have done my licence plate lights and dome light in blue LEDS as well. I have added the Honda decals in blue to the wheel centers since pics where taken.

GE8749EW - No I did not undercoat the wheels. When I had the wheels off I did clean off a lot of oversprayed undercoating on the inside of the wheels. I had it undercoated by the dealer. I do not see painting the drums affecting warranty.

I used grill paint to paint mine. I didn't like the rust on the wheel-face of the drums, so I panted the wheel-faces. I don't think I'm going to bother with the front discs.

Despite the fact that they're more efficient than rotors? They just suck in the rain is all.
