Just took my Fit for a quick drive on some errands. Probably out for no more than 45 minutes and drove maybe less than 10 miles. Just came back home and parked in the garage and I hear these bubbling noises from the engine after turning it off. Never heard these sounds before.

Bought the car back in April of this year. Anyone else have this problem or know what might be causing it?

 

Did you install an intake that required the removal of a coolant hose and lost coolant. That happened to me and it sounded like water wooshing around in the dash. Like bubbles moving back and forth.

Sounds like you are low on coolant.

 

Be careful of bubbling/gurgling noises. Check it out quick. You could be low on coolant or not enough coolant/water (50/50) mixture, but also check the radiator cap. If there was a defect in the cap, it may let air into the coolant system, which causes the bubbling (boiling). This will make the coolant not flow through the system enough and eventually overheat. This could lead to big problems (Head Gasket) if not checked soon enough!

 

Fitguy07 - I didn't install an intake recently. Everything in the car is still stock.

I suspect it might be coolant or water, but I'm not sure. I had a similar problem with an Integra I had and the gurgling sound was coming from this white container next to the radiator. Not the case here. The radiator seemed fine. The noise seem to be emanating from inside the engine near the belts.

The sound stopped about a minute or two after parking the car.

 

i have the same noise... no idea of what it is...

 

on my car it's the washer fluid in the bottle.
it moves back and forth when you come to a stop.
fill it to the top and see if it still does it.
this is what my car does.

 

niko3257 - I'll try that, but I don't think that would be the problem. I've never used the washer fluid before.

 

Well I just checked the washer fluid, still full, so no need to refill.

Just took the car for a 25 minute drive on the road and highway. Came back and the bubbling sounds did not come back.

 

Mine makes the weird noise when I turn it off sometimes. Sounds like that sound you get when you dont close the soda bottle all the way and a little gas gets out? Like a very faint hissing sound.

 

Were you running the AC just prior? It could just be the refrigerant "boiling" in the condenser while the high and low pressure sides of the system equalize. A bubbling noise from the AC system could be considered normal for a minute or so after shutting down.

Just to be safe though, check your coolant level in the expansion/recovery tank and (only when cool!) the radiator. (If it's low in the radiator, but full in the expansion tank, you probably just have a bad radiator cap.)

 

^yea it's most likely nothing major. if you ran the a/c or defroster (which runs the a/c as well), that would be the cause of the hissing sound. it sounds more like a hissing than a bubbling though.

 

TheGonagle - Come to think of it, yeah I did run the A/C when I came home that time. It was more hissing sound too. I guess it makes sense now. When I went on that evening drive, I just rolled down the windows, no A/C.

 

Are you parked on an incline where you might hear your gas moving about in the tank maybe?

Sounds like A/C to me. Mine does it too, and it's fine.

I would describe the sound as "gurgling" but i guess bubbling makes sense too. The wifey first noticed this noise a few days ago. The reservoir is between min/max so I twisted off the rad cap. It looked like it needed an ounce of coolant. Okay, so I picked up some Honda Type 2 coolant and put in what felt like a drop of coolant. I loosely put the cap on, started up the car and waited for the rad fan to come on as per my Haynes manual but it didn't come on after 15 minutes. So I just checked it then anyways, it's warm enough right? The book says I'm supposed to top it up if necessary, but the level stayed the same.

I've only driven it once since then, but no gurgling noise this time.

I also checked my ATF level since I had the engine running and my hands were grubby. That dipstick is hard to get to man! Or I've got fat hands...

 

Mine made a similar noise when coming to an abrupt stop and shutting the engine off. Ended up being the gas "sloshing" around in the tank. Check it out........

I am having this exact noise coming from my vehicle. Its like a gurgling/rushing water sound from the firewall. I have topped of the coolant which wasn't that low and replaced the radiator cap but the noise is still there.

Could there be issues with the heater core? I'm so confused by this since I haven't come across this before. When I did data logging the CT sensor was only hitting like 195* so I don't believe i'm having any over heating issues. Fan kicks on as well.

Thermostat maybe?

BTW this is on a GD.
