Cool Flimsy roof.

I was washing the car the other day and started on the roof. The whole panel on top bent in and popped in and out like a snapple cap. Is this common to all or is it just mine?

How hard were you pushing! I tend not to apply much pressure when washing, so I wouldn't know really.

I had to press a little hard. A bird had pooped on my roof. Can't drive around with bird poop on your car.

Yea I washed mine yesterday and the roof was doing the same thing. I wash it softly but waxing it takes a little muscle. Should be fine if you don't push too much. Hood did a little of the same. Its a soft car? lol

many have commented on the thin sheet metal on the fit.

ever notice when driving in the rain, the raindrops hitting the side panels sound like ice pellets?

yea, the day i bought mine it started pouring down as i was driving home and it sounded like it was hailing all over my car. I pretty much had a heart attack thinking I JUST BOUGHT THIS! then when i got home there were no marks or anything w00t!

So in other words, if it really DOES start hailing, we're doomed!

Yea I have about $250 worth of hail damage on my 09 Sport... doesnt show up on the hood but the roof looks terrible. When I turn on the garage light in the AM to leave I want to cry seeing all those little dimples in the roof. Oh well. I'm about to buy the OEM carpet mats (I live in Alabama, little to no snow) and a new GPS... waiting on getting the hail damage fixed until October or November.

just the other day i heard on the weather channel that it usually takes golf ball size hail to damage a car. ...that sounds kinda big. ....and ive never seen hail that large here in new jersey. but i bet it would take way less than golf ball size hail to damage a fit.

I washing my car Fit for the first time on Saturday, and noticed this as well. For the Fit, it is normal for the roof to snap in and out just from slight pressure, although I would not want to do it on purpose.

It's not good luck for your paint/clearcoat.

that's normal on most cars these days to lower the center of gravity.

actually you dont want to be pushing down on your wash mitt while washing your car to minimize swirls.... just let the mitt glide. especially on the roof things don't get THAT nasty vs front end of the car, slower side panels, etc.

It's not so much the thin metal IMO, but a lack of support bracing combined with the fact that that's one HUGE roof panel.
