Newbie 1st tank review and comments
Well, I finally went through my first tank of gas on my new '09 Sport and I can't believe it took two whole weeks to do it and it required 9 gallons to fill it up. That's it! I'm trading her in!!
(It's amazing how quickly I've forgotten about my Lincoln Towncar)
One thing I can proudly say is that my MPG-o-meter is wrong........and on the low side. It stated I was getting about 24 mpg when I was actually getting 34 mpg (combined).
Secondly...there is literally nothing I dislike about my Fit. Everything about her is perfect. Even though I don't think she'll be winning any races any time soon, I "got on her" a little bit tonight and she's definitely peppier than I originally gave her credit for and the one characteristic I love the most about her is the handling! Oh how I remember passing up parking spaces because the Lincoln won't fit or I couldn't swing her that wide. This baby turns at 90° angles!
But I'm also led to a question about our Fits.....
Whenever I've bought any new car or bike, the manual stated certain services that are needed when one reaches certain mileages but the Fit's owner's manual doesn't. The "break in oil" for example. Typically, it'll say to change the oil at 500-1000 miles but from what I can gather, I am simply to wait until a certain code is displayed and to then do the recommended service.
Am I missing something or is that the way these Fits are? Every page in the recommended services section of my manual are the same!

One of my cars that is now gone was a '97 Caddy Deville. I loathed that car. People love 'em. I hated it. I felt like I was driving a house around- a stretch ranch at that. Parking was a nightmare. It made me look like an idiot driver. I never got used to the turning radious of that freakin thing.
When you have passengers in your fit, you may notice one annoyance with the way the door locks are programmed by default, which unlock only your drivers door when you throw it into park- the rest remain locked. THAT annoyed the hell out of me and my passengers. Check out the sticky thread 'unlock my doors' to reprogram that. It's an absolute must, imo. That was the only thing I didn't like about my fit and thanks to this great bunch here, it can be solved in seconds. And it's programming you won't find in the manual either. Skip to the very last page in that thread and get the skinny on it. Otherwise I agree, the fit is perfect. There isn't a thing wrong about it, to me.
Far as the maintanance questions, I defer to those that know more. I'm still a fit newbie myself. Enjoy your fit!

Here's my Lincoln. I bet your Seville was nicer!

manual says to wait until the oil meter says 15% which can go up to 10k. some ppl changed and sent their oil to get analyzed at 5k (50% life) and the oil ppl said that it was the perfect time to change. the concern about changing to oil too early is due the fact that the factory oil has something special in it which helps seals stuff up. moly-something...
Well put. I had a Chevy Caprice - cop car on Valium. Handled like a pig, and was actually a chore to drive in traffic. I feel "dialed-in" driving this Fit...much the way I am on my motorcycle. I'll take that any day over big car "securiy."
The word you are thinking of cab0053 is molybdenum.
Don't change it at 500-1000 miles. You need to break it in with the stock oil first.
On the other hand, you can change it way before it gets to 10% life left. I would monitor it and change it if it starts to look dirty between 3,000 and 5,000 miles. Don't rely on the gauge to tell you when to change it, always look at it or if you want to get super technical, send it off to be analyzed if you wish.
