Racoons and Fog Lights

I t-boned a really large raccoon at high speed the other night with my 2009 Fit Sport. As I checked for damage I noted the passenger side fog light was pushed back inside the bumper after snapping off the mounting brackets from the plastic piece which mounts in the grille along with breaking the mounting screws from the light housing itself. The lens and the bulb are fine and the light still works but it only illuminates the inside of the grille.

This morning I visited the local Honda Dealership where I found that you cannot buy the individual pieces. Instead you have to buy the entire assembly- the part number is 33901-TK6-305. It also costs $179!

I've looked on the Internet and found the assembly for as low as $119 but then they want $45 to ship it. I'd like to check the junkyards but finding a wrecked 2009-2010 Fit Sport it doesn't look good.

Does anyone have any suggestions where to get these pieces at a price I can afford??

Besides your slim chance of finding a wrecked ge, no. You are going to have to shell out the $170+ or jury rig it.

The exact same thing happened to me, except it was a tire instead of a racoon! I ended up buying the whole fog light just for the black plastic shroud, and then I sold parts I didn't use (the actual fog light and bulb). A lot of people have or will have broken fog light lenses, so I don't think you will have a problem selling it.

+1

The original poster is very lucky. He will be able to get rid of the bits he doesn't need from the assembly very quickly.

Or...save the extra fog lamp assembly, to insure you'll never break a lens. At least that's how it always works with me. Anything I already have a spare for, I never lose or break.

Yeah, well I guess it's a pretty good idea to go ahead and buy a complete fog light assembly but it just pains me to put out $180 for a single unit when the whole sheebang (two complete assemblys) costs $259.

At least you didn't hit a skunk. Keep a $50 deductible on your comprehensive insurance for those nighttime drives in the country.

Cheers.
