The originator or the imitator?

The originator or the imitator?
As I am sure the rest of you do too, when I am driving my Fit I always keep an eye out for other Fits but I am often fooled. There are tons of sub compact 5-door hatchbacks on the market and many which look like the Fit, especially from the rear, including the Aveo and the Hyundai and Kia models. I'd have to say the only one that does not look like our Fit's is the Versa.
We all know our Fits are the best but who introduced their little 5 door hatchback first?
I went to the gas station today about a mile away to buy some cigarettes (never need gas) and there was a truck stopped next to me at a traffic light and boy were they staring! You could just tell they wish they could get out and ask some questions!
Love our Fits!

Back end of the Versa looks more like a last gen subaru impreza than a Fit.
to be honest, I have very little problems distinguishing a fit from anything else because there really ins't much out there (imo) that looks like the fit. the toyota Matrix I think comes closest and that's only at a really far distance.
[edit]
AHHHHHHH!!! the other pics loaded, only saw the Versa.
the Aveo looks more like a Tata than the fit, the Mazda is more of a wagon looking vehicle with a more level nose. The one thing that really sets off the Fit from the others is the almost straight line between the bumper and the top of the windshield. There is very little change in angle where other cars definitely have more of a nose/hood/engine bay.

Maybe else where but not it the U.S.
Mazda's are nice but for the (money/what you get) not as nice as the Fit. I chose the Fit over the Mazda 3 so the Mazda 2 (when it gets to the U.S.) won't even be on my radar. But this is all my opinion. This is not saying though some people might like it. But not for me personally.

1974 VW Golf MK1
1976 first gen Honda Civic
I had a '78 Civic hatchback, that thing had a TERRIBLE carb, if the car backfired, the backpressure would flip the float bowl upside down, and it'd be dead on the street. Happened at least twice a month for the year I owned it.

These are uber hot.

The VW Rabbit is the earliest I remember so far. It was followed in '77 by the very similar Dodge Omni/Plymouth Horizon. In fact the early Omni/Horizon used the motor from the VW Rabbit (I owned a '79).

What I find interesting is when I got my Fit in August there were few to be seen. It was rare to spot one. Now I can't help but see at least three per trip- the SHORT trips. Sometimes more. They are definitely multiplying in a hurry.

I too had an early Civic; I'm not sure but it may have been in 1976... It was a hot little, well handling car that gave a Mini-Cooper a run for the money! And the hatch offered some surprising space too, although certainly nothing like the current Fit!
Biggest problem I had with that car was the points-rotor-condenser non-EI ignition system. The thing was forever burning out points and wearing down it's rotor, and they needed constant care and adjustment! -IMO it was as bad as the old Lucas electrics the Brits had in their sports cars and Triumph motorcycles!
