GE8 Hood damper

I know someone here has it. I believe it was a white fit. I just wanted to see installation pics...and ask you installed it. I got a kit but it came with this extra long bracket which I'm not too sure where it goes...instructions aren't clear (pics) and the written instructions are universal.

**EDIT**

problem solved. Didn't use extra long bracket. Install pics below...

when i first bought mine the guy stated it worked for
usdm ge8 but it didn't. it only worked with jdm ge8.
i got a full refund from him and kept the kit.
so i modded it and made it work lol.

yeah, i was able to make it work. so if you guys plan to cheap out like me and get it from ebay...here's the result:

here's the mounts...I had to switch sides of the mounts on the hood to work and position it in a different way. hard to see cuz the mounts are black and the damper is black....and im using my kurapay cell phone camera:

and in this pic i had to mount it to the bottom mount of the hood hinge vs the intended location of the fender (u.s. hood hinges are smaller than the jdm ones). "red" circle is the actual mounting location (fender) and "green" was the compromised location I came up with:

It works good. I think it might lift better if it were mounted to the fender.

Overall it lifts higher than stock mounting location 1 but the shocks are strong. I have to guide it up a little...which is weird cuz our stock hood is light.

wow those work pretty good, if its not too much trouble can you give me the specs of those dampers? like length totally compressed and length totally open? im going to try and go to a salvage yard and yank a set off of something else. unless you got them from somewhere really cheap...(ie under 50)

thank you very much I appreciate it. So is this a USDM one or a JDM and u modified it. If it is a JDM, what did u have to modify for it to work?

On my set, I had to reverse the left and right brackets where they mount on the cowl part of the hinge before the hood would shut all the way. When mounted as instructed, the cylinder was too long and the hood wouldn't shut. One thing I would advise, don't install the retainer bitchclips on the setup until you test it. I had to remove them to move the mounting plates, and lost one in spite of using pliers and knowing exactly what was going to happen.

See if this helps:

Also, when completing the project, gently snug the bolts on all mounts so you can close the hood gently and the brackets will move a bit to self-align. Then crank down on the bolts.

Finally got it. I had the hood brackets on the hole that held it closer to the hinge. Once I moved it, it made it all come together. Hood doesn't lift quite as high, but at least it works now! Still lifts higher than the first stop though.
