rattling weather seal annoying the poop out of me

the rubber seal (attached to the frame) on which the driver's door rests rattles. more so in cold weather... but can rattle at any time the road isnt smooth.

the rattle is on the driver's side only. the seal looks identical on the passenger side. so there's no visible explanation.

it doesn't seem to be an issue with the door. in other words, the door seems completely stable.

dealer wants me to leave it there for a day for them to figure it out. says the vibration could be coming from anywhere. seems like a big pain for a simple rattle.

anyone else have this problem? any simple fix?
it annoys me because the rattle is inches away from my left ear.

Leave it at the dealer.. I had a rattle from Day 5 on our ridgeline... 1st oil change, I took it in and told them about it. It was a loose screw inside the door that was causing some plastic to rattle... they tightened with some threadlock and all was right with the world. No cost to me.

interesting. thanks. i hope it would be that simple to solve in my case.

i sense it's an incredibly small vibration which is causing an disproportionately larger rattle in my case. if it was on another door, i wouldnt even hear it.

There's an urban legend about a disgruntled assembly line worker who leaves a large loose nut inside the door of a Cadillac, with a card attached to it: "I hope it took a long time for you to find this, you rich SOB." I agree with others: if the car is still under warranty, your first course of action is to have a dealer look into the problem.

The loose screw might be a possibility. I know our glove box had a rattle when we first got the car and it was all the fault of one loose screw.

I found a rattle that occurred because the screws holding the closing tabs of that secret compartment under the rear seat were not screwed in far enough, leaving the 'trap door' too loose, so it rattled. 3 minutes with a phillips screwdriver, and the noise was GONE!

First, make sure it IS the door seal.

Spray a bit of silicone on a shop rag and wipe the metal side where the seal mates and drive the car. If the noise is gone, you've discovered the short-term and cheap solution.

If the noise is gone and you don't ever want to mess with it again, there was a bulletin service news about it for Accords with a procedure that involves teflon 3m tape application and shin-etsu (not sure on the spelling) grease application inside the weatherstrip with long pipe cleaners. Seriously. We did it on my Accord and the noise went away, it irritated it me horribly. Every tiny quiver of the car made them tick.

If you have a good service advisor or service manager at the dealer ask them to search ISIS for a 2003-2007 accord noise Service News article and see if they'll try it to cure your issue.

if i stick my fingers between the seal and the door, the rattling stops.

one could argue the door is shaking and causing the seal to rattle... but i dont sense the driver's door shakes any more than the passenger side door... and the passenger side doesnt make a rattling noise.

That's a bit hyperbolic, given what we've learned about water torture in the past 8 years.

I'd say try pressing on other parts of the door to see if the noise goes away too. This will give you (and possibly the techs) some place to start looking (if you provide them that information)

today i rolled 4 pipe cleaners together and slid it into the opening of the weather strip and left it there. it seems to have reduced the rattle by about 80%... and that's good enough for me.

get your door adjusted, there's a 2 screws that hold the latch and will make the door seal tighter when you close eat.
Put a piece of tape before you loosen the screws, you just need to move it about an 1/8 of an inch and tighten the screws
this should solve your issue
