First long trip on highway

Soo, I left Miami on 12/24 and headed towards North West Georgia to spend the Holydays there in our daughter's cabin in Elijay, the Fit was loaded with about 300 Lbs of stuff and 2 occupants. I was glad to see how it ran at high speeds, at first I kept it around 70 mph and was more interested in getting good mileage, then I started drafting big trucks and the mileage improved drastically but they only go at 70 mph which is the limit here on the Turnpike, on the way back to Miami I joined a group of cars that were driving at 90, 95 mph and was surprised to be able to keep up with them, it must be the rpm range was in the power band. My oil life is at 30% and it has 6900 miles on it now with still the original oil. The total trip was 1500 miles and I'm very happy with the way the Fit handled itself on the open road.

dang, you could've hit my house with a Fit if you wanted on the way through Kennesaw. Also, I was up in Blueridge on 12/26 we might've passed each other on the Zell Miller Aypreywey. GA mountains are better than FL mountains. But not much.

Steve, I'm sorry to tell you the only mountain in Miami is the garbage dump.

There are several which will remain secret, we don't want tourists to get the wrong idea about our town. Let them see the pretty pictures of Miami in

"Dexter" has nice scenery too! Then there was that one with Don Johnson.

Having lived for a while next to Metro Zoo (pre-Andrew) I have a good appreciation of dumps.

Happy to hear your journey to the great north in a Fit went well! They hold an amazing amount of crap with only two people.

I'm not surprised. I can do 80 without even noticing. The Fit can do high speed no problem. It takes a bit to get up to the high speed but it'll keep up and then some. I have to check myself and keep it max 70 around here. Anymore than that and you're begging for a ticket. But they'll let you do 70 almost all the time. Posted speed limits are 55 here but everyone does 65 as the default with no hassles from highway patrol.

Highway driving is great in the Fit. I find long driving sitting still for hours hurts my bum so I sit on a pillow. lol I may have gone a bit heavy on the throttle. Love the great open scenery.

Uhh, not true! How 'bout the mountains of unoccupied and unfinished high-dollar condos in and around downtown Miami?

Or should I say formerly "high-dollar"?

Hi minisushi, it looks like 110 mph on the speedo, right?

The Fit is my wife's D.D. but I drive it on the weekends with her in it and also drove it on this trip. She is always reminding me to keep it under 70 on the expressways around town but on this trip she didn't complain when I got it up to 95, one day when I'm alone I'll push it to see how fast it will go.

Yes it seems that is the limit no matter how far the accelerator is depressed. 5,100rpm at 110mph. Engine tune sounds strong i believe is the vtec yet still unsure what rpms the vtec turns on. It was a bit of a clumsy shot but turned out nicely. Here it is at full size. [link]

Hey minisushi, I opened the full size link, in there you can see clearly the MPG indicator at 33.6 MPG at 110 MPH this is great, what other car can do that!!!

Try looking at your throttle cable, there may be some slack you can tighten up and it will give you a more WOT by doing so.

yeahbut instantaneous mpg is only 19. Also he's not showing us the speed trap just ahead. Plus the fact that he is distracted taking a picture of his folly. not cool.

5500 RPM is where the rev limiter cuts out on the GE8. That's about 120MPH, and when you hit it, you'll know instantly. The fuel cut isn't much fun. It pisses me off every time I hit it on the track.

I found that my fit, even in stock trim (stock wheels, tires, alignment, suspension, brakes) was completely stable at that speed. Now with lightweight 15x7 wheels, and extremely sticky tires, mugen sport suspension, and -1º camber, I find that it's a bit more stable.

The fit has no throttle cable, and I don't think tightening up the wires would help. :P
