Fixed my glove box rattle

I'm sure I'm not the only one who had a hugely irritating rattle coming from just above the glove box area. Drove me nuts.

I finally fixed it the other day when I was replacing my cabin air filter. It turns out it's from the metal glove box latch, which is right up against the underside of the plastic dashboard. I took off the latch (3 screws) and put a scrap of cloth in between it and the dash.

FINALLY, no more rattle.

Mine rattled too. I fixed it by taking the metal tire pressure guage out of the glove box. I couldn't blame that on Honda.

One of my biggest pet peeves about my 09 fit is the rattle from the glove box, If Im on a bumpy road I leave it open and its fine, shut it and it drives me nuts even with a good navi deck and 20 volume, its loud. Im damn handy but yet to have a good look at it, Ill do so this weekend and fix mine as well.

Go to a frame shop or art-supply store and get a sheet of the "bump-ons" that keep the bottom of a picture frame from scuffing the wall. They're self-adhesive. Open the glovebox and stick them on the flat surface that gets revealed so that they exert some outward pressure on the closed glovebox. That'll take care of the latch-rattle problem. Take it from me--the rattle was bugging me so much that I had Honda replace the glovebox under warranty, but then two weeks later the problem started up again. I decided I had to fix it myself, and an earlier post in a different thread tipped me off to this way of solving the problem.

And yet, over 5,000 miles and through the worst pothole spring and bumpy winter, I've not heard a thing from the glovebox. Whether it developes over time is another story. But an '09 Fit doesn't automatically sentence you to this problem, I don't believe. If it ever happens, the bump ons is a great and easy way to silence it.

This evil creature seems only to arise when my car has been parked in a very cold area, but quickly returns to its evil lair when my car warms up.

Let me revive this thread for any further developments. A buddy has a Fit about six months newer than mine; while he was driving, I pressed on the glovebox door, and that shut it up.
I need to take a closer look at both cars, but any better info on how to shut the damn thing up? Without holding it...
The car is remarkably squeak and rattle free, especially considering our cratered Westsylvania roads. Except for the glovebox....

When my subwoofers are loud the front windshield wipers vibrate uncontrollably... Can't figure out how to get rid of it for the life of me. Even tried replacing the springs on the wipers with stronger ones.

Uhhh, turn down the freakin' audio...?

Stuck a couple felt bumpers in mine today, and a preliminary ride seemed to show a problem solved. Let me see what happens when things cool off.

Which flat surface are you talking about? When I open the glove box I see about 30 flat surfaces.

I had the rattle on cold mornings when the car was new last spring. It disappeared over the summer, while it was warm, and I expected it to return last winter. For some reason, it never did, and the rattle seems to have fixed itself.

i have 2 separate rattles coming from the glove box area. one is removed if i apply pressure to the inside bottom of the upper glove box (if that makes sense).

then there's a much louder rattle that comes from that general area, but i havent been able to isolate it.

i now also have a rattle in the driver's door. if i apply pressure with my hand against the inside of the door (just below the window) the rattle goes away.

the car is now 3.5 years old, and the rattles are coming fast and furious.

My car's rattle was the USB cable and jumpdrive rattling. I put something soft underneath and the noise went away.

What seems to be the door can also be the trim piece on the outside of the cowl. The smaller piece in the corner may be loose. Just stuff something under it.
