hello im new :D

wsup guys!
i do not currently own a hondafit, i currently own a 2002 honda accord coupe. now the reason why i joined was because my dad wants to buy me a honda fit and im seriously considering it cause i recently just got a new job, and i commute a lot for school as well as for work. so a fuel efficient car is a must for me at the moment.

the reason why im posting is just to say hi, and i was wondering what do you guys love about your honda fit? and how fast can you make these things without major modifications such as turbo or motorswap

thank you and nice meeting you guys!

Welcome!

First off, you're really not going to make it that much faster than it is just because of its inherent design: fuel efficiency. If you're looking for a fast car then you're looking in the wrong class.

As for why I personally like my car:

1) I like the look
2) Utility
3) Fuel efficiency
4) May not be fast but it can sure feel that way
5) It has an analog speedometer
6) It's just awesome

I guess the other perk with this car is since it's a Honda, there is a huge aftermarket community dedicated to modding it in one way or another.

Cheers and good luck with your car buying!

The Fit is awesome, great gas mileage, super low maintenance, easy as heck to parallel park or park anywhere for that matter. Amazing visibility, affordable, fun as heck to drive, tons of cargo room, and its a Honda.

As far as making it fast, turbo would not be the way to go IMO (reliability) and the only other option would be a swap. Bolt-ons for this car would be a waste of money in my opinion as you're really not going to get much out of the Honda L series engines. This is my opinion of course and some people really enjoy spending a couple hundred dollars for a few claimed (often only butt dynoed) horsepower.

If you like the first paragraph, buy the car. If the second paragraph makes you sad in any way, maybe look at another more expensive sportier, faster, mod-ready car.

I personally find that the Fit is more than enough fun to drive, bone stock. And my other car is a track prepped Acura Integra Type R that I drive at HPDEs at the advanced level.

If you're looking to make it a fast car then I suggest you look elsewhere. The Fit isn't easily modded to be fast. It's meant to be an efficient economy car and it does that beautifully.

What's wrong with the accord coupe?

Most of us love our Fits so you can find positive comments on this thread and ALL. OVER. THE. BOARD! But if you are trading in the Accord to save on fuel, why not do some quick calculations and figure out how long before you get your money back from fuel savings. It's usually not cost effective to buy a new car to save on fuel because unless the old one is a real hog, it takes a long time to realize enough savings to break even. OTOH, if you just want to trade it in for a different sort of car of if the Accord is shot and costing you money for a lot or repairs, then go for it.

im not exactly looking for a FAST car, but i am actually kind of looking into small modifcations is all. But i would like this car for the fuel efficiency since i do drive about 60-70 miles per day

hmm i am definitely not looking into a turbo, but bolts on was something i had in mind. i suppose ill look into how much gain one really gets off basic bolt ons.

because my dad just got into an accident, hes buying my car off of me so he can share with my sister, and hes buying me this new car, so its not going to cost me much at all and i'll be saving tons of money on insurance.

thank you everybody for the inputs, it is appreciated. i will continue my research and i am leaning towards getting this car.

Well then jump on that before he changes his mind.

Seriously, I think you'll love the car. I got all jazzed up about getting it after my test drives and now that I have it, I think it's even more awesome than I expected it to be. Are you thinking of AT or MT? Base or Sport?

that is what im kind of researching right now, it seems like the sport is the better buy...and i would really like an MT but since my dad is buying it he wants me to have an AT -_- and is it true there are models with at/mt transmission?

As you can see by my sig, I have the MT Sport so that is my preference. I think the Sport is a great deal for the money. If you want USB and the other goodies that come with it, why not just let dad spring for it now instead of trying to add them later?

The sport AT has paddle shifters so you can drive it in sport mode sort of like a MT. Might be a good option if you have to share the car with someone who does not drive a stick.

I'll put ONLY downside of getting a Fit since everyone only put positive sides of the Fit. This is just my opinion so don't get upset people!!! lol.
1. Price
I know u get what u pay for but to me a Fit sports doesn't worth paying $20k in my opinion. I got one for $23k out the door because I added A LOT of options. With $23k I could've gotten a VW Gti, but then I'm comparing an apple to a banana.
2. Space
Everyone says it's rommy, but in the end it's a "sub-compact" so there r some limits to the interior space. If u r an avg american being 6" 160 lb, it will be a little tight fit for ya.
3. Gas
If u r not careful how u r driving the Fit, u will get below 30mpg easily in my opinion.
4. Aftermarket add ons
There r not many stuffs that u can do to the GE8 yet, and they r expensive as hell if u happen to find some.
5. Driving quality
Like I said this is only the downside of getting Fit so the worst thing about the Fit is driving on the freeway. Let's just say try to get away from huge 18 wheelers because ur car WILL fly off the highway. lol

Again, I love my Fit Sports to the death but those r something that I found driving the car for almost 3 months.

That's a lot for a Fit. Must have had lots of options to get it up to that price. Are you comparing to similarly optioned cars? I paid $18, 698 including tax and everything and others have gotten better deals than me.

No way! A 6 footer will have lots of room in this car.

The Fit definitely isn't fast, although because it handles well, it can teach you to pick up speed and maintain momentum from driving skill.

As a highway commuter it'll do the job - good, but not great. It's not the most comfortable, mind you, and it's best that you try it out for a test drive and see if you find the (stiff) ride quality okay. If long-haul comfort is a consideration, you might want to spend more dosh on a larger, cushier car. It is undeniably ROOMY, however.

Fuel efficiency depends on driving habits. The L-series engines can return wildly varied results on fuel economy - they're largely dependent on how they've been driven. At high RPM in particular, the L15A7 can get surprisingly thirsty.

Good luck
