To sell Lancer Evolution 8 for Honda Fit?
Hello,
I currently drive an 03 Lancer Evolution 8 GSR. I am debating to sell the car and see if it would be a wise choice for a better daily driver (Honda Fit). Since I am looking towards the economy side of things, Currently getting 15mpg at 320whp. Of course going from an AWD turbo to FWD N/A econ is just two different worlds, but there are always trade offs, costs, and benefits. Just looking for advice from anyone with similar experiences and seeing
if they made a great choice in the end.
Thanks,
-David

Been there, done that...
I've gone through several cars over the years, with the last four being 2001 Audi S4, 2004 STi, 2006 STI, and a 2006 Evo IX RS. I came to my senses last year to start house shopping and it came time to put the car craze on hold for a little while.
I looked into several cars that were fun to drive, reliable, inexpensive, and easy on gas. The Honda Fit won hands down. Let me tell you...every day I drive this car I appreciate the decision I made. It is a LOT of fun to drive, the handling is sweet, the rack ratio is QUICKER than the Evo, gets double the MPG, and lowered my insurance premium by ~40%!
Just make sure you get better tires...I installed RT615s with 600 miles on the odo. Night and day difference compared to the stock junk. You'll thank me later.

haha ill give you my fit monday wed and friday and i get the evo on those days and then on tuesday thursday and saturday ill take the fit and you get the evo. and then every other sunday well switch off lol lets do visitation lol
I went from one clean '87 Porsche 944 to a Fit Sport. I do miss the RWD and torque... but i like the amenities and versatility of the Fit. It's a fun car, no doubt, but it's strong points are economics and transportation. I don't regret my switch at all. I love to zip through traffic like other cars are cones!!
With gas prices on the rise... i can't see you doing any wrong by dropping the evo and strappin in to a Fit!

great overall car
I too am putting the car crazy life on hold to save up for a house. The Fit was a wise choice. It can be rewarding to see how high MPG I can achieve, and also push the Fit hard and enjoy the fun peppy performance. I would love a Lancer Evo, but gas prices are shooting up and insurance is out of my league.
If your not all that into all out speed and handling and actual driving the car in canyons instead of drag racing is your thing, get the Fit. Its not fast, but it handles and turns like crazy. Plus there are options to make it quiker if you want, but it will never be a Evo.
Overall, id say the Fit is a better car though.

I'm always going to miss my camaro that I got rid of, I still wish I had a sports car. But the Fit is a fun car to drive, get's great gas milage which is getting to be pretty important with gas prices like they are now. If I ever get into a better situation financially where I don't mind blowing money on gas I'll probably get another sports car, but until then, the Fit will do just fine and make me happy everytime I hit the gas station.
My Fit...well...Fits! No regrets what so ever here. Granted I didnt come from a faster car, sort of, (I came from a 91 Integra hatchback). But the Fit gives me exactly what I asked, a fun, economical car that doesn't break the bank. It sounds like thats exactly what you are looking for while putting the go fast needs on hold for now in order to be more economical and maybe put a few extra $$$ in your wallet. I say go for it and don't look back. Usually looking back is what gets people in trouble.
My wife are getting ready to sell our G35 for a fit because of gas prices. We drove the automatic (though we will buy a manual) and we both fell in love with its fun to drive appeal. Granted its not fast nor will it ever be quick, but saves on gas and will make you smile when you save a ton of money in other places. (ie Insurane, gas, monthly payment, etc...)
wow, what a change!
i didn't come from anything amazing, but my 07 rabbit def had torque that my fit could have only in dreams.
i def felt the step down, but gas and cost to own were much better. (no expensive german service).
now an evo gsr is a different beast, and chances are that with the money you save, you can put a little into suspension mods and maybe do a few underhood things to make it more enjoyable.
but the fit is hands down the best handling car i've ever owned. not the grippiest, but body control is wonderfully damped.
i think you will still miss you evo, who wouldn't, but the fit makes for a great practical, economical car, that while not quick, is very fun to drive.

Second the RT-615's! The Falkens give the car a TOTALLY different feel. Steering feel with the stock tires is really light and not communicative. Once you throw on the RT-615's it is just pure bliss.
Also, invest $150 in a rear sway bar and the car will handle like on rails. It's a nice, no-drawback and no-maintenance mod.

I'm actually parting the evo out right now, I think I'm actually going to go through with this... It seems like the wise decision to do. Plus I paid the EVO in full when I bought it, so I should have at least 7-8g's to play with after I buy the fit in full, (14000$ out the door hopefully?). That leaves a lot of room for new toys... i.e. coil overs, tires and wheels right away on the fit
plus a much fatter wallet than before paying over 100$ a week in gas! I think I'd be able to keep this car for a very long time getting through college and grad school.

If you really dont want to wait I say go for it. If your liking the 09s better you should just wait. Anyhow you can always trade the 08 for the 09. My personal opinion is go for the 08, but thats because I own one and I love it..lol
