Bought 2010 Fit Sport Last Night

Picked up my brand new Milano Red Fit Sport last night.

Did the deal through "Auto Nation" and was a little unhappy that my new baby already had 241 miles on it.

Two other sad things: the dealer installed a small black/white pinstripe on both sides of the body that runs from the headlight to the tail lights. I didn't ask for this and they basically told me to live with it. Will this increase resale value at all? Hah, not by much, I'm guessing. Am I crazy to be unhappy with this?

Also, the body had fine little circular scratches all over. Probably from someone washing it with a sponge/rag that had fine grit in it. I got them to agree to "clay" the car, which I'm bringing it in to do next Thursday. Will this help it to look completely like new?

Some fun stuff: wheel locks came free, along with the cargo tray, which is $75 at HandAaccessories.com

Anyway. I'm glad I found this Fit resource, and look forward to learning lots more about my new car. I've got a long way to go now. Need to pick up some accessories, tint the windows, and get me a nice system. Good to "meet" you all.

Live with it? I would have told them to shove it! You most likely can remove that pinstripe yourself, just very carefully peel one corner and see if the whole strip will come off (if it's not actually painted on).

Several others on here have had the circular scratches, clay bar and wax usually help.

Easily removed (assuming its a generic vinyl pinstripe). Claybar/wax after you remove it.

No claybar helps remove stuff that is stuck to the surface of the paint, basically super cleans the surface, for application of a good coat of wax. A professional polish will help remove those scratches.

Welcome to Fitfreak though, lots of helpful nice people here.

A little trick i learned when i removed the pin stripping from my old civic. Let the car bake in the hot sun for a few hours, then slowly peel away. Finally, wipe off any remaining adhesive with some Goo Gone.

Finally, I added a photo.

This was taken earlier this morning. You can almost just make out the small pin stripe detail.

There's also a "Courtesy Honda" placard right below my shiny FIT emblem. How do I pull that off without damaging the body?

If you can't wait for a warm day, a hair dryer works well to soften the vinyl and adhesive. Just don't go overboard with the heat.

Yessur! Courtesy Honda in Sanford is where I picked it up. And that is where I'll be taking (her, it) to get "clayed". I'll let you all know how that comes out.

As I was driving home from work last night, I noticed that the audio system has little to no low end at all. So, I'm thinking upgrading the audio is going to be priority number one.

Any links / resources / reports on 2010 Fit owners getting a respectable sub in their vehicle without taking up the awesome amount of rear cargo space?

Scratches and mileage

I think I'm with you on this. I just picked up my new Sport last week and have no scratches or the like, and probably paid the same for the car. I don't like the mileage either. That's probably demo mileage, so there should be a major discount for buying a demo car. I think you guys are being too nice to this dealership.

I second Koala's comment.
I'm a detailer. Clay bar only removes surface contaminants. It will not correct swirling. Neither will wax. Wax only hides it. It needs a professional swirl removal done to correct the paint.
Contact qbmurderer13 here on fitfreak. He is an excellent detailer down in your area.

Here is his thread...

Also congrats on the new car!

Don't take it back to them to "clay" it. Why would you trust the same people who damaged it in the first place? Take it to a pro or do it yourself if you think you're skilled.

Remove the pinstripe and the advertisement sticker!

They offered to clay it for free, so I'm willing to see what that does. I asked the sales manager what would happen if it didn't look different after the claying and he said, "Oh, it will, trust me." Famous last words, eh?

I guess if it still has the tiny circular scratches after the claying I'll bring up getting a professional swirl removal done, at their expense, of course.

Today is a relatively hot and humid day in Central Florida, so I'll attempt getting the dealer emblem off. The pin stripe just might be growing on me. It's comprised of a black stripe and a white-ish stripe verrrry close together. I may just remove the white and keep the black. I was always leaning towards a red / black color scheme. What, with a black nose mask, and potential flat matte black rims someday.

As far as the pinstripe, I would have told them to shove it. You made the deal on a certain colour car, and pinstripping was not part of it. It's like them giving you another colour and saying "tough".

As far as mileage, don't forget, others may have test drove this car before it was sold to you, so it is reasonable. As far as I know, they will honour the warranty for the full mileage amount counting your delivery mileage as 0, since the car is being sold to you as "new", not as a "demo" model.

I actually was disappointed in the bass in my stock system as well. I then found the setup menu on the stereo and set it to full bass. Much better. Still, you're right, a little sub-woofing would make it sound better. A fuller sound would damp the road noise more.

Add an Infinity Basslink or some other add-on powered sub. It'll help with the low ends. The Mids and highs aren't too bad, especially for a car in this class/Price range. My altima 3.5SE had an awful stereo which made me appreciate the Fit's sound right out the door.

As for the Pinstripe, I'm not usually a pinstripe kind of guy, gut that one's not bad. i'd let it sit for a little bit and see if it grows on you. It does set your car apart from others.

Alright, I'm taking your advice, and letting the pinstripe stick around for a while. It's not so bad now, though I'm still not completely in love with it. And it does add a tad bit of uniqueness.

Progress so far:

1. Programmed all my locks to function the way I prefer. Nice touch.
2. Ordered me the ginormous Fit windshield reflector. This, along with my Florida legal limits tinting I'm getting on Friday, should help keep the car much cooler while it bakes in the Florida sun. Yes, the AC feels unpowered to me. Hopefully, this will help.
3. Thursday is my "clay" appointment. I'll let you all know how that turns out.
4. Went by Ultimate Audio on OBT in Orlando and spoke with some dude about a tiny, minimal sub. Best he could do was this really slimline sub, that he actually said had more low-end than a thicker sub with a bigger enclosure. Said it would be $650 all-in, including the amp. He didn't really say where he would put the amp. I think he mostly thought I was a big joke: me asking for a sub for my Honda Fit. He spoke to me in a really condescending way. Even after I admitted to him that I knew nothing about car audio.

Tinting was definitely first on my to-do list, but next has to be the audio. Is $650 for the sub package crazy? It won't even look factory, which is a bummer. And, as such, will start to invade my useful hatch space. Hah, at one point, I had asked, just out of curiosity, what a custom fiberglass enclosure would run, and he looked at me blankly and said, "three thousand dollars". Which, I realize these things aren't easy or cheap, but he could've said something polite, like, "honestly those costs can be so high, they may represent about a sixth or seventh of your cars overall worth, and depending on how important audio is to you, may not be worth the price." I wanted to be educated... I didn't want to be "schooled".

I guess the age-old question is, what's the most cost-effective way to upgrade the audio in this vehicle? Will a better head unit simply work wonders? Or will it require more oomph? I'm not looking to win awards, turn heads, or cause mini-earthquakes. I just want a nice, respectable audio experience that can rock Madonna to Mozart.

...rant over.
