Could I fit a mattress inside a FIT?

Just a quick question. I could fit a refrigerator in a fit. But right now I also want to buy a king size, 6 foot mattress. I was wondering if I could fit itinside a fit without folding it.

Otherwise I'd have to wait 4 days for them to deliver it.

Break out a measuring tape if you want to know, but king size? Plan on a four day wait.

Even with a Fit, sometimes there's just no substitute for a friend or relative with a full size pickup truck.

If it were one of those foam matresses, it might "fit" if rolled up, but a conventional-I'm thinking no way.

I did manage to put a queen size but with the hatch open. And it was a pain to kinda fold a traditional matress. So from my experience, No, I don't think a king size bed is gonna fit inside

I think it'll be too wide even at an angle. Mount it on the roof maybe and tie that bitch down?

Darn it. I wanted to have that mattress by tomorrow. I really hate waiting.

Well I guess the fit isn't a miracle car that could swallow item after item.

The more obvious question here is...why do you need a mattress inside your Fit?

Planning on testing the suspension?

Mattresses are old sleeping technology.

IMO as a physical therapist, the best and cheapest sleeping set up is:

2 king air mattresses stacked with a foam ( memory or other) topper.

or

1 air mattress on top of the existing box spring, then the topper.

Traditional mattresses are breading grounds for dust mites, bed bugs, mold, mildew...

Air rules

I am about to buy the mattress now. It's a latex one. I thought it was the most comfortable mattress they had. Very soft. It's about $500.

I went to a couple of shops but none had air mattresses. Right now I also don't even have a bed. I going to sleep on the ground.

Did I make the right choice?

I went with a memory foam mattress a couple of years ago to replace a 17 year old waterbed. I kept the waterbed platform minus the sides, and trimmed it to fit the new mattress. It got the mattress off the ground, and eliminated the need for a box spring. I love it.

FWIW, I loved the waterbed for sleeping, but the disadvantages were:

1. heating the water with electricity is expensive. I noticed the difference in my electric bill once it was gone. Also, getting and maintaining exactly the right temperature is critical to comfort, but tricky to manage.

2. Once it's set up, there's no moving it to clean, replace a carpet, paint the bedroom or whatever. OTOH, an empty waterbed outfit WILL fit in the Fit with room to spare.

3. The possibility of damage to the building from a water leak.

We just fit a queen size mattress (the newer memory foam type--not rolled up) inside my Subaru wagon it was a very tight fit, never could have gotten a king size in there. Have not measured the difference between the storage in the Fit & Subie yet.

King Size latex mattress for $500 that is a super price!! I was mattress shopping 2 months ago and did not see any latex for under $1200 in queen size.
I am very pleased with memory foam ordered from Costco. It's so comfy I bought another one & got it for my son --we found a Serta memory foam at Big Lots--$400 & rammed it into the Subaru. The Costco was delivered to my door and came tightly rolled up--would have easily fit into a Fit or my Subaru. The mattress from Big Lots was wrapped flat. If you can fold the mattress it should work.

IMO I think latex is good, but if you or your parter is one of the 20% of people allergic to latex, thats not good.

IMO a full memory foam mattress is overkill, as the air with memory topper(1-3 inches) makes the perfect marriage/combination. Easy to move around, add or remove air. Only costs about 150 max for 2 air mattresses and topper.

Happy sleeping

And your air mattress of choice is? In my experience, they fail over time. They are not exactly cheap, so after a couple of them failing on you and deflating it becomes old, a pain, and you move on. And frankly, air was uncomfortable for me. The only place it seems air is good is for temporary sleeping situations. They don't hold up to full time use by adults for very long, ime.

Your right in that air will eventually get a slow leak, and there really is no way to patch it. Sometimes it will take 3 days before a leak starts, sometimes you can get 1-2 good years until the leak begins. Usually the quality/thickness helps.

This is what I do to ensure I have a lifetime supply of free air-mattresses. I like to get coleman brand at target for 30 bucks. When they eventually spring a leak, I pick up a new one of the same at target. When I get home I vacuum the old bad one, roll it up, and put it in the box of the new one. I then return the old one, and tell the customer service person that it was defective, and show my recent receipt. They always give me my $ back. Im not proud of this, especially sharing it with others, as its essentially stealing. I always pay with cash. You can do this trick with just about any product. Flame/bash away

If you use just an an air mattress it wont feel good, but once you include a memory foam topper, its a completely different, more luxurious feel.

I agree. If you wanted to try one sometime these are pretty good: http://www.amazon.com/Intex-Raised-A.../dp/B000M0MJU2
