I haven't bought it yet. It's still money we are talking about.

I don't know if I want to get a soft mattress or a hard one. I am worried that a soft one would give me back problems. Or that I would sink into it and make many things harder to do. Like rolling in your bed, getting up.

Thats the beauty of air. Adding or decreasing air takes 30 seconds. Firm or soft or in between, depending on your mood. You can have anything you want, then change it. Nothing compares

Why not transport it on the roof?

transporting it on the roof seems kind of dangerous. I'd have to transport in the middle of the city. The traffic here is just insane and so chaotic. You'd have to see it yourself to understand it.

I have never seen an air mattresses for sale here. It's either memory foam, pocket or regular springs or latex. I am really about to bite the bullet for a mattress now. I am going right now to take another look.

Right now I narrowed it down to the soft luxurious latex mattress for around $500. Or a rock hard latex one (it's really as hard as the ground!) with a topper. $500 for that one and I think $200 extra for the topper. This will be a decision that I have to live with for more then 20 years.

I was really hesitant about going the memory foam route, but so glad I did. It is the most comfy bed I have ever slept in. It is both firm and soft at the same time. Have you tried them? I will never go back to springs again

If you don't have pickup truck but want to haul the occasional bulky/messy load, consider buying a trailer hitch (etrailer.com | Curt Trailer Hitch for Honda Fit 2010 - 11064) and a trailer (1195 Lb. Capacity 48" x 96" Heavy Duty Foldable Utility Trailer with 12" Wheels).
Get a folding one if you don't have space for a full size trailer when not in use. 15 years ago I bought a 1977 Holsclaw dirt bike trailer that I put decking and sides on that has hauled everything from mulch, to furniture and building supplies. I can't count how many times it has come in handy! Never needed a pickup truck, and 90% of pickup owners don't need a pickup's payload capacity anyway. Your Fit can easily pull a little trailer loaded with 500 pounds of stuff, and it won't weigh down your suspension system like putting lhings in it will. Suddenly, bringing home a 4x8 sheet of drywall or carrying a lawn mower, three bicycles, and a keg of beer is a piece of cake.

Full memory foam smells so bad. You have to air it out for weeks. It out gases some nasty chemicals.

Not true at all- the ones years ago may have had stronger odor & also got hot--today's ones do not- mine had a very faint smell for the first day--you put mattress cover and sheets on it & it goes away. My sons had no odor at all, since it was not rolled up and pressure wrapped.

I'd get a firm mattress if I were you. You can always add a memory-foam topper for $50 or less to soften it up. We currently have a pillow top and are considering a regular mattress that is very firm. My wife is having spinal issues and we don't think the bed is helping at all.

As for delivery/toting it home in the fit... Get a coleman or aerobed for the next few days. They are handy to have when visitors come. Have the bed delivered. They'll usually take away your old POS if you have one to dispose of.

I highly recommend an inversion table. I love it, and so do my clients.

I didn't know people still used water beds...

You definitely would be able to fit a twin and probably a full size mattress in your car. But a queen or king would definitely not fit inside.

Well, when I bought the waterbed (1988), they were still pretty popular. It lasted until 2007, because there was not much going on in it besides sleeping for all those years.

how about a double/full mattress with box springs

Hi everyone! I'm new here! I lease a 2014 Honda Fit (standard vs swanky sport edition) and I have to haul a double/full mattress with box springs across town. Anyone have advice as to how to do that? Thank you!

From personal experience, I do not recommend moving a king sized mattress with the roof of your Fit. I did it and was fine, but I have a huge roof rack. This would have been impossible without the rack...

My Fit with a king sized mattress. That's a baby bouncer on top too.

How I daily drive it (the rack is used at least weekly, I haul a lot of computer stuff for work and just throw it on top):

I really should have just used my trailer (see this thread, I posted a pic of it in there https://www.fitfreak.net/forums/eco-...-2010-fit.html), but I wasn't expecting to buy a mattress that day. We went to Ikea and were astounded at how cheap they were. The bed was on sale, so mattress + bed + bed slats came to just about $500. You can't tell from the pic, but there is also a king sized bed and a baby in a carseat in my Fit in the first pic. I'm amazed what you can put in these little cars. Honda did good.

A huge rack is usually a nice thing to have.
