I'm sure it will be ok. Sooznd's rack is only about 5 lbs lighter than the Softride and she also has it on a Class 1 hitch. But I'll play it safe and opt for a hanging type of rack.

Looking closer I see that the hitch is okay with these type racks but they say to use stabilizing straps to keep it from swinging around when loaded - sort of makes sense, trying to minimize the stresses on it all.

The mountain bikers I know don't seem to care too much. If it hangs off the back of their "vehicle" it's okay.
