Using 15" wheels to lower

Maybe this has come up in past posts but I cannot find it. Instead of using springs or coilovers to lower the GE 1" or so, why not simply buy 15" wheels and tires? Wouldn't that lower the car AND lose some unsprung weight at the same time?

15" wheels won't change your ride height unless you go with some tires that are of a smaller outer diameter than the original 16" wheel/tire combo,and in doing that you will throw off your speedometer

Running 15" rims on stock suspension could increase the wheel gap i.e., space between the top of the tire and the fender. Lowering the car would remove that gap or lessen the gap depending on drop.

I am running on 15" rims/tires and i have a bigger wheel gap than when it was stock. Although the car does sit a bit lower overall like the space from the ground to the bottom of the front bumper is a bit less.

Here is a pic of the wheel gap i am talking about on my car;

like gbaby said, decreasing/increasing the circumference of the stock tire circ. will throw the speedo off. but technically yes, if you use a smaller wheel/tire combo it'll lower the vehicle half the length/height you decrease the diameter...granted that'd begin looking awkward at some point.

You can use this link to determine speedo difference depending on wheel and tire size
