To visor, or not to visor - that is the question

I agree, but then again when it's ~110CF of interior volume with a dark interior and tons of glass, how much are windows cracked 1/2" really going to help with or without the visors? Feeling is believing - it's still unbearably hot when I get in the car after it's parked in the sun.

I think part of the problem is that the visors are rolled under a little bit, so there's suprisingly little room for air to escape or breezes to blow in.

Also, b/c of the way the back windows roll down, I never crack them when I'm parked because the gap at the rear side of the glass would let water in if there was a sudden storm. So maybe it would work a little better if you could use all four windows, but I still have my doubts that it would work enough.

Basically if someone is getting these so the car won't be as hot after being parked...they will not be impressed with the result.

Well I can't really comment per se on disrupting the lines of the car since I have an 08 but as far as looks and function, I love mine. My biggest reason wansnt for looks but for function. I hardly ever us the a/c so, as everyone here has experienced, with even a mist the shape of the windshield and door frame has water dropping in instantly. I'm from NE PA so they're also great in the winter to help vent moisture from wet mats and clothes. I also have the JDM visors so they are held very tight to the car and with 35 tint all around I love the way it looks. So with the opposite weather patterns it may be a different motivation for you.Probably my favorite time for them is evening when its too cool for windows all the way down but too nice to run air. Besides I've always found the free flowing air with the windows down to be well worth the extra noise, but that's me and I think I've run the air twice this summer so far. . Good luck with the decision! Oh and I don't smoke either, I feel judged now.

You've made a good point re: rear windows. Glad I didn't visor those.

You're also right in that they will not make the car cooler if parked in the sun - nothing will. What they do is allow the interior to match the exterior conditions, they vent the interior - that's all.

Back in 1966 I got my first VW Beetle. It had JC Whitney chrome door visors. The underside was painted forest green. They were the nuts - provided a bit of shade - allowed the windows to be cracked open when driving in the rain [VW's then barely had heat let alone fresh air intakes or A/C] - and put a splash of chrome above the door [stylish].

Fast forward to the 21st Century and you now see the same thing only in polycarbonate. And it's all for the same reasons as why they were cool 44 years ago.

No need to reinvent the wheel - go on-line - find the best deal and get 'em.

Well, the visors got here. I had actually ordered them before starting this thread, but barely mentioned it in my post. Went out and held them up to the car, and gotta say, they look pretty damn good. From inside, it's a cool effect, and with the Texas sun and heat, they will make a difference being that they are so dark. Pics to come when I get around to installing them.

Got mine on ebay for around $55 shipped, as many have. No problems with the order at all. Sellers name is "curryhondany-2008."

I have yet to install them. While they look pretty good and are functional, I'm still on the fence. I will see what I think once I get Swifts on. Don't want to overdo it.

The reason I am not putting them on even temporarily is because it appear as if the rubber channel that holds the clips will bend the rubber, so once removed, there will be gaps. I put the clip in, rolled the window up, and then back down, and can't get it back to the normal shape.

I've been debating this as well.. I'm tired off the door armrests, and window switches getting soaked when I have the windows slightly opened while its raining.

Visors have been one of my best modifications, IMO. The #1 factor is keeping out the sun on the driver's side window. I'm tall enough that they keep the sun out of my eyes 99% of the time without me having to swing the interior visor over.

During the install did you install those spongy pieces into the channel?

I clipped them on without adhesive and took before and after pics from the same spot. I'm probably going to leave them off for now. Maybe I'll put them on if I ever go for a more aggressive, non-daily driver type of a setup. Actually, I think the Mugen ones look better now that I am more in tune with the Fit's styling.

I saw these on the showroom model Fit at the dealership. I didn't like the shape of them, but what I liked even less was that they were already scratched to hell and they hadn't even been outdoors yet. The plastic was extremely soft. Seeing as how we have sand and gravel on the roads here for over 6 months of the year, I'd have to pass.

What would be even better is the old footwell vents on the huge oil tanker cars of the 70's and 80's. Those were pretty spiffy. Invisible from the outside but breezy on the inside.
