fan won't work in any speed other than 4....

Wassup FF'ers

I was rinsing off my car this morning from the dust and bird sh!t that it tends to collect and I rinsed off the rims as well. Didnt want to wash since NJ might get rain this weekend...

When I jumped in the car i found that my fan would not blow air at any speed other than 4 (which is the highest).

Any ideas? I think I might have wet something when I was spraying the wheels and might have sprayed into the well. I'm letting it sit for a bit but I'll be driving to the shore today so if it continues tonight into tomorrow, then off to the dealer I go...unless any of you might have a solution

The solution is to go to the dealer. There's a TSB on this issue. The dealer will replace the switch and the blower motor.

Thanks

Went to the dealer....he printed the TSB which is also on this website I just found out

Unfortunately my fit has 43.5k on it so its out of warranty. I spoke to the service manager to ask for what is mentioned in the TSB as a goodwill repair. He said he would look into it and call me back with at least some discount for the parts and or repair.

Just in case I have looked into getting the parts from Bernardiparts and replacing it myself....parts come out to $176, repair seems easy enough as only requires the removal of the glove and a panel beneath it.

hope the goodwill repair works out though....I love my fit but two electrical issues in my short time of ownership is a bit dissapointing

If you end up doing the repair yourself, you can cheap out and just replace the fan speed switch. Its a lot easier and significantly cheaper. The worst thing that might happen is that you have to replace the switch again. Since this isn't a safety issue, ie the blower motor won't catch fire, I'd argue its reasonable to go for the cheaper route. If the worst thing that happens is that you have to replace the cheap part every 40k, that's not the end of the world.

fan speed switch? is this the same as the blower resistor?

I have been looking through bernardi parts for a while now and even submitted a email looking for the fan speed switch....they dont have it listed.

So my question to the reply recommending (cleverly) to just replace the fan speed switch: Is this the same as a blower resistor? the two parts that need to replaced are the blower motor and the resistor....

Thanks for your help guys, its driving me nuts to drive around with speed setting 4 on all the time....

David
