Our Fits are starting to catch on!
Our Fits are starting to catch on!
I drove by a Dodge dealership when I noticed they had an '07 Orange Fit Sport that was traded in and I stopped to ask about it as that is the color my wife likes and may get a Fit too. The salesman then asked me "what was up" with the Fit as they had just gotten it as a trade the day before and I am the 3rd person to inquire about it. I told him I already had one and volunteered to show him the car and what it can do. He was totally flabbergasted to say the least!
Needless to say the Fit sold the next day!

We are turning fitfreak into a knitting circle
where are the turbo kits and camshafts I assumed I would be tripping over when buying any honda? Instead we just tell stories about accidents and fit sales. Maybe this is what goes down on the prius forums too?/rant
Yea, sales will probably pick up. Which is kind of a bummer. I mean if we don't have any real mods available, aside from lowering and rims so we can look like every honda on the road, we might as well be exclusive instead. Otherwise we'll be little different from all those versa drivers out there.

Who is purchasing is the question.. Here on LI I see a lot of "Silver" hair drivers in Fits. The majority of sales are going to older folk looking for MPG's and value instead of performance. I'm 44 father of 4. When I needed to purchase I saw the Fit for it's value in $, MPG's (I work 40 miles from work) and versatility/space. It is a great value for these things not so much performance. It would be interesting to see a study on the average age of owners and wonder if it effects companies from producing parts for our vehicles. I see the opposite in Japan where the Fit looks to be a Rock Star and has a younger following = many parts.
I built a '68 455 Buick Skylark when I hit my M.L.C. and that sits in the Garage most of its life. I still have modded my fit because I'm still young at heart and would love to add some speed but it will depend on $ and availability. I can't take the reliability away from my DD for a little power.
Heres my performance

I am an old guy that has so far ignored the eye candy shiny overpriced stuff and have focussed on practicality, and performance... My car doesn't get much notice from anyone until I put the accelerator pedal down to make a lane change in front of the idiot to my side that keeps cutting me off by closing the gap between his vehicle and the one in front of him... A 70 to 80% increase in horsepower and torque is easily noticed when you have to use it and 1/4 throttle is all that is needed to keep up with traffic on Interstate Highways.
They had one advertised on a local car lot and that thing was sold within a week! First time I have ever seen one advertised for sale - I look at those ads everytime just to see what used cars they have. As far as saying a lot of "silver haired" people are buying the Fit - this is true. I am 54 years old and I got the Fit because I loved the body style, the fact that it was a Honda, a hatch and the gas milage. What happened after that - is anyones guess. I am showing the car in import classes and beating S2K's, Evo's, RX7's and a bunch of nicely turned out Hondas. I am good with the performance part of my Fit although I am leaning towards a new exhaust but it is my DD so I don't want to cause problems with any engine issues plus can't drop the baby because I live in a places that the car is going to get torn up if I lower it. Fit Freaks love their cars! We do what makes us happy. This is what my Fit has done from last year to the last car show. These include a crystal trophy for Best of Show Post 1975, 2nd Place Import, my most proudest - plus a Top 70 trophy at a classic car show where Import went to a nice Matrix. They pulled the Fit, Honda Accord and an Evo included in the Top 70 cars and it was a big show.

I know alot of people would not think of putting their Fit into car shows but I am having a blast and enjoy it when someone loves the car and has never even heard of it before. My plans will be to have the Fit on the road as long as I can. Once I retire I am purchasing a classic Honda and fixing it up as a show car. I just know I want to be a 60 year old lady out there still showing a Honda! I go to local Honda meets and hang out with car guys that are young enough to be my sons. We have a blast because the passion for our cars unite us.
In case anyone questions the 2nd Place Import win (First went to an Infinite) Here is the picture from that show and the pretty S2K sitting beside us:
