Red face What does the "Panic" button do?

I was at Ikea the other day (took advantage of the great cargo space, btw) and forgot where I parked. I press the panic button to locate my Fit but no luck. I finally locate my car and press it again within arms reach and still no alarm. I assumed that it triggers the car alarm. Or is it only to turn it off?

2010 Fit Sport.

Press and hold the panic button for panic (this prevents "pocket panics"). Press the lock button repeatedly to find car in lot with short beeps, instead of setting off the alarm.

If hitting the panic button, didn't trigger your alarm--what does it do?

It does trigger the alarm, but like spreadhead said you have to hold it down to trigger it. I can only assume that this is so it doesn't accidentally trigger on the inside of your pocket.

thanks- I thought that was what the OP had done, but I guess he just pushed it like the lock or unlock key.

I did the switchblade key mod, and the key fob I got from eBay doesn't recess the panic button, so I've set off the alarm a few times by accident.
