Hi all, yes the engine can be removed thru the top pretty easily, as long as the alternator and the first catalytic converter are removed. That converter can then be stowed above the steering rack to keep it out of the way... see pix. Engine removal thru the top means no need to remove the subframe or steering rack.

Thank you for this info and thanks to everyone that chimed in. I do not have access to a lift, so I was hoping a crane would suffice. My question - what's the maximum tolerable weight support of that crane in your image?

 

The weight limits are stated on the adjustable length points on the engine crane itself. (Review Picture) above
