Could try charging the battery disconnected from the car.

Come back to garage. Disconnect charger. Car won't start.

So I'm thinking I might not have properly connected the cables. Disconnect the charger. Reconnect the Positive cable, then...as I go to connect the Negative cable—this time on the thicker metal of the car frame (versus the weak thinner metal above)—the car's panic alarm goes off.

Which makes me jump, of course.

I try it again: Negative cable clipped on to the car frame? Same reaction: panic alarm going off.

So my question to you guys charging your batteries: Is this normal? If not, what am I doing wrong?

Thanks.
Take the battery in to NAPA, Autozone, Lee Auto, etc. Most of these places will have a nice charging unit. Far superior to the trickle chargers, variable output chargers or 10A/hr units most of us have at home. These can even bring AGM batteries back from the grave after a complete discharge, like <9.5v

I know the way I use the car(or don't!) isn't helping, but I'll let you know in the middle of January whether this helps...
Braille is the way to go! My Braille B3121 just arrived yesterday from Amazon.com. The original lawnmower battery died after almost 3 years and 29K miles. Braille was a perfect FIT (no pun intended). Installed in less than 20 minutes! Would recommend it highly as an easy (but not so inexpensive) replacement.

Any updates on the Braille B3121 on the GE8? I'm thinking about getting one for our kid-hauling GE8 and like the specs but don't want any reduction in reliability over OEM (ha ha, I know the 151R is kind of a joke).

Thanks,

Joel

Edit: they do make an AGM "sports" battery (ATV's, jet-skis, etc) that could be made to work in your Fit Sport. But @ $121 and 8 to 20 AmpHours, I'll pass.

Thanks guys.

@TexasCoyote: I came to the same conclusion about Braille vs. East Penn/Deka and ended up getting this:

East Penn Manufacturing ETX30L ETX : Amazon.com : Automotive
+
XS Power 586 Tall Brass Post Adaptor (M6 Thread) : Amazon.com : Automotive

for a total of $117 shipped

Which I believe together will be equivalent to the Braille B3121 @ $179 shipped.

Specs-wise, wow, if Braille are literally taking the same battery and uprating the specs/price as much as it seems, either they're full of BS or East Penn Manufacturing suck at marketing and are leaving a ton of money on the table.

We'll see how it works out!

Kinetik HC600 850 amps, High Current Car Audio Power Cell Battery

20AH and is my secondary for my subs power hungry setup. Bought one used that was hanging in a trunk helping the bass bump for 3 years, and now doing same duty for me.

Get those M6 adapters for underhood installs, mine just uses washers and wiring eyelets
