fender blinkers

just thought about this....how come our GE fits do not have the side blinkers on the fenders? I know that JDM cars mostly have it (like the yaris)...and I know that the JDM fits have the mirror blinkers. kinda dumb how honda didn't give us the blinkers for the mirrors like the JDM OR the fender blinkers. (i noticed a lot of JDM cars have the fender blinkers)

The reason a lot of Japanese cars have the fender blinkers is because it is a law to have side blinkers, without them the car will not pass its every 2 year inspection. More manufacturers are going to mirror blinkers versus in the fender blinkers. I don't believe it is law to have side blinkers, so that is why you don't see any on the Fit in the US.

^since the fits are brought directly from japan, i would imagine the fender blinkers will be built in or the mirror blinkers...why would honda take it out? esp if the JDM fits only have hte mirror blinkers and not hte fender blinkers. (since the fenders are probalby different due to the different front end on the JDM vs USDM). but wouldn't it be easier for honda to produce mirrors that are already in the JDM market than making new ones for the USDM? any insights on this since you're in japan?

No. The entire car has to be reengineered to meet FMVSS (Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards). Lighting is a major difference.

Japan follows the ECE (European) standard. There are a myriad of differences, but the most notable involve lighting. The rest of the world requires side repeaters, we do not. Brightness levels are different. Colors are different (we allow red rear signals, and our brakelights are much brighter). This, incidentally, is why so many older US cars had sealed-beam headlights. Aero headlights weren't allowed, period.

I recently changed my mirror covers to those with blinkers. A "fun" project.

Nice mirrors. Where did you get those? It would be about same amount of work to install as mine. I would not be able to use that style as I have heated ones.

The side markers have a DIY here somewhere. Heck only a couple more wires to hook up in the fuse box. Someone should come up with some sort of Fuse box addition that we could work on without laying under the dash.

More parts equal more cost. It's not required by law in the U.S. so it means that Honda can save on production cost by not installing them.

This is honestly my one pet peeve with the Fit. I've found in multiple situations other drivers can't see my turn signal because the front turn signal is inside closer to the grille than the headlight. When someone is diagonal or closer to the side of you they can't see your turn signal very well or at all. The orange reflector on the side of the headlight is utterly worthless. Honda should have at least designed it to light up as well as a turn signal or at least made the side mirror turn signals standard on all models in all countries. It's a safety issue I think Honda should have been smarter about even if it added $100 to the cost of the car.

Mine came from Thailand as well. It begins to get tight once you add 4 connectors in the fuse box.

Actually the cost is likely more like $10 or less. A bit of acrylic and a LED and a bit of wire. I wonder when someone will try to add a LED to that reflector somehow?

I was over exaggerating, even if it did cost that much it would be worth it. No doubt it would actually cost Honda a lot less.
