Clutch changes when a/c is on

Does anybody else notice how different the clutch feels when the a/c is on? it almost seems like the clutch delay valve doesnt work anymore.

I'm not sure if this is related, but I've definitely noticed that the engine and shifting feel different when the A/C is on. It's especially (sometimes only) noticeable when I'm in a low gear (like I am during most of my long-ass Los Angeles commute).

Dunno if I'd go so far as to say the clutch feels different. Sometimes it's just a weird pulling when I'm driving in 1st or 2nd (and in gear).

It's similar to shifting at high loads and wheel speeds, except more noticeable at stops / low vehicle speeds since there is no / little momentum in the drivetrain to mask the higher output required from the engine by running the A/C compressor. With A/C running, clutch feel is different even without the clutch delay valve.

The A/C compressor takes at least 2 or more horsepower to run when it is engaged and at idle that is a substantial loss being that the engine doesn't begin to make much power until revs are over 2500 RPM... The clutch is working fine, the power drain is slowing responsiveness of the engine so use more throttle to build more revs before letting the pedal out to engage the clutch...

Thanks, this is helpful. Given the number of days I'm creeping along the freeway, though, I'm curious: is this just a nuisance, or am I doing undue wear or harm to my baby?

Depends how hot the motor gets and how hot and humid it is outside. Most noticeable when its really humid and hot. Engine bogs down but shifting shouldn't change.

I'm what is considered hot in your part of the country. I had one car in front of me at the ATM at my bank and my coolant temperature hit 202 degrees Thursday with the A/C off... If it had been on it would have been cooler due to the cooling fan running but the A/C wouldn't have been cooling down the car as well as would have moving down the road. I'll be glad when it finally gets down into the 70s... My car really flies then.

The fit seems to have a weird clutch. I cant seem to get used to it, weird feeling to it. I cant put my finger on it exactly. Ive driven manual transmission for a long time and have never stalled a car so much.

I find it impossible to stall, but overall, it is a weird feeling clutch, and I think there are several threads where we all shared our thoughts on it.

Personally, I'd be happy if the CDV were still there, but a bit faster. Not sure I want to get rid of it completely. Who's going to come up with an adjustment kit?

I cant say that I have had a problem with the clutch but the the drive by wire throttle caused rev hang used to drive me crazy..... The electronic throttle controller takes care of that problem.

I thought I was crazy and just me when the revs would stay up between shifting.
