Models

Ok I'm running the risk of getting me banned from the Forum for stupid questions, but I was reading an earlier thread and an individual was told that this is a GE8 forum and that the GDx poster should move to the other forum.
Here is my problem; I'm in the US and I have 2010 Sport (I understand I'm being redundant) and I'm assuming this is a 2nd Generation model but according to Wikipedia (Honda Fit - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia) I'm also a GD4.

If this is true am I on the wrong forum.

TIA

All second gens are GE models. The only confusion that may arise, is that the Fit was released a year earlier in Japan, and had an overlap with the old model in the states. You are in the right forum. It is divided into GE and GD sections, but much of the info is relevant to both.

Thanks

The "GE8" part comes from your VIN number. That's Honda's Chassis code for the car. The first generation fit is a GD, the second generation has a GE in the VIN. It is a common way to refer to specific cars, like a DC5 is an Acura RSX, an AP1 is an early year Honda S2000, etc.

Don't feel bad man. I never got into the whole model number thing and probably never will. If someone comes up to me spouting about their GDXXXX or APXXXX..my response...not to be rude will always be a

@FITrunner,

I was thinking the same thing. Yesterday, I was thinking of how I would react to someone that would want to compare the ge to a gd or even an ep (yes, I know a Civic). All I could think of, was to do exactly that.... Give them a .

Or as I had, a Honda Integra and not the crappy alphanumeric scheme Acura changed to.

OP, don't believe everything you read on Wikipedia, afterall anyone can put anything on there. The 2nd gen Fit has never carried a GD chassis code, at least not here in Japan or there in North America. Who knows though, maybe some ASEAN country had the GE listed as a GD for whatever reason.

EDIT: Just checked the link you provided and I can see why you would think so, the individual(s) that made that Wiki page updated to include the 2nd gen, but not the section listed under models, except for listing the GE3 (in Europe, which may have actually been the GD body and it is a Chinese made model to boot). Though not sure why they didn't list the GE6 1.3 liter model in Japan, GE7 1.3 liter 4WD model(5AT only) and the GE9 1.5 liter 4WD model(5AT only) as well as the GE8 everybody in North America has and those of us in Japan with either a 5MT or CVT transmission and 1496cc of fury under the bonnet.

Wow, thanks for the comments and thorough explanations.
I have to agree that all I really want to call the vehicle is a 2010 Sport Fit and let it go at that...but if I have technical issues I'd better figure out exactly what I have so as to avert any confusions in my future posts (like that will help me from creating confusing dialog, yea right) since I will be posting you can bet on that.

Thanks again all for the responses!

I'm with you, I am a bit of a car guy, but I'm not in to the whole model numbers and such, but I did learn for the fit just so that if I had a question, I would know what part of the forum to look in.

OP:
Nah don't get too worried. You US/Canada folks have it simple: all your Fits are either GD3s (2007-2008) or GE8s (2009-present).

It's a consequence of American Honda importing just the L15A engine and ditching the 4WD system (that so far seems to have appeared only in Japan).
