So basically my dad said I can get a car but it has to be auto, he said a civic or a fit, I wouldn't get a civic unless its a si, so I've been looking at the fit and decided on getting it in dec or jan, gotta get a auto so my mom can use it at certain times. Today I went to the honda dealer with my cousins and they all said the fit sucks and its a chick car, they keep telling me about getting a crz or a civic si, can't get the crz because it has 2 seats, can't get the si because its a manual(even though I know how to drive a manual). My question to all of u here is that if I should just encourage my dad to get me a si and drive my mom to places and my cousins would like it? Or get the fit in auto, let my mom drive it @ certain times and my cousins are going to dislike it and I shouldn't care?

 

You either love the Fit for yourself or you don't. I have to say the first time I saw it on the internet and found out it existed - I would not consider anything else but a Fit. My saleman did not want me to buy it. He told me all kinds of negative things about the car, rattles, hard ride, no power - but once I test drove it, even driving a Civic just to get him off my back, I knew the Fit was the one for me. If your worried about it being a Chick car or your cousins giving you a hard time, it doesn't sound like you really want one anyway. I can promise there are a ton of guys on here driving modified Fits and they are in no way considered a chick car. My own Fit a 2007 is my DD as well as my weekend show car having earned 12 trophies including 2 Best of Shows - Hope you find the car that will make you happy.

You have to be young and dumb before you can be old and wise.

So with that said, I will leave you with this tidbit. Many people think the Fit is a chick car or too small, or too slow or whatever - that is until they drive it or see how useful and cool it really is.

The good thing about your cousins not liking it is that they won't drive it! And when they ask you for a ride.................you'll know what to say!

And do you realize how lucky you are to have parents that are giving you that choice?!? I hope you thank them!

 

if i had to get an automatic i was going to get a toyota matrix or a scion xb.

my friend has an automatic honda fit and it kinda feels slow to be honest.. idk why... because even the automatic keeps high rpm's when you gun it... its just something about a manual transmission.

 

funny... my wife thinks the fit looks like a boy's car. I'm a 38 year old male, and I love the fit. In the city, I see EVERYONE driving a fit, and in the burbs I primarily see senior citizens driving the fit.

I guess the car is well liked by both genders and any age.

Do your cousins even own a car? They don't seem like they are being very sensitive to your opinion, they don't sound all that nice.

Whatever you get, I hope you enjoy and love it. Is this going to be the first car you have owned?

 

First and foremost, I think you should care less about what your cousins think about the car you get because you are the one who is going to be driving it. The thing with the Fit is you can't knock it until you try it and I'm sure you cousins are knocking the Fit due to its specs on paper and looks. Second, is this going to be your first car? If so, I wouldn't recommend the Si at all. Generally speaking, horsepower + little to no driving experience x (multiplied by) a youngster's tendency to show off and/or be reckless = an accident waiting to happen. In addition to that, insuring and maintaining (requires 91 octane) a Civic Si will be pretty costly.

I've seen this plenty of times leaving high school with kids who probably had their license for a month driving their parents Mustangs, F-bodies (Camaro/Trans-Am), Hemi-powered mopars (300C/Charger/Magnum), MR2s, Cooper Ss, Impreza WRXs, and more leaving the parking lot show boating and ends up blowing or almost plowing into something. In addition to that, there could be a time were that extra power can make bad situations worse such as driving in a heavy storm for example.

If you look beyond it being underpowered, the current GE (<-- chassis code) Fit is a great little car. It handles well, has plenty of interior and cargo space, and gets great fuel mileage. When it comes to the Base and Sport packages they aren't necessarily like a performance package or anything like that, but more like creature comforts. In other words, the Fit Sport is full of creature comforts and necessities such as alarm, cruise control, fog lights, factory lip kit, rear spoiler, rear sway bar, 16 inch alloys, and steering mounted paddles (for automatics). On the other hand, the Fit Base has none of these extras. It is essentially spec'ed to be basic transportation to get from point A to point B.

With all that being said, its really up to your personal preference once you check out both the Fit and Civic and test drive them.

 

I say go for it. It is a honda. Can fit (pun...of course) lots of stuff. Can fit lots of people. Drives AMAZING for a small car and price. Even if it is A/T, it is still a blast to drive!

I'll tell yo this, your cousins are idiots. Go drive it by your SELF.

 

It's real slow but it has a lot of space due to the magic seats and it's fuel efficient. It's also small so it easier to find parking. If you want performance you are better off with a Si.

Just FYI, the auto feels a little laggy, because Honda chose the shift points for FE. Add to that the conservative mapping of the drive by wire throttle, and you have slow feeling acceleration. The 5MT feels eager, zippy, well-matched and is a blast to drive.

This is my own opinion, but I don't like the Si at all. As a former RSX-S owner, the Si felt artificial in its controls- steering, shifter, pedals, and I hate the styling inside and out. What I like is the balanced chassis (which the Fit has) and the Ferrari f430 engine note.

Get the 5MT Fit and you'll be in love.

So what good is it going to do for me to say The Fit isn't a Chick Car, or it doesn't suck? Or even what good is it going to be for me to say Don't be influenced by your cousins or friends...because you will be....

Difficult to offer any opinion because there seems to be at least two dynamics at play.

I get the feeling you'd rather have a Civic SI...manual.

But I also read that this decision or the parameters of the decision aren't entirely yours? You are being told it must be an automatic...Fit or Civic.

So the warning flags to me, are that you aren't totally sold on The Fit and already feel insecure or unhappy about it. Or you woudn't be thinking about trying to convince your Dad to allow you to get what you seemingly REALLY want.

Well? What do YOU want to do? Is it YOUR car? Or is it really being bought as your car BUT partly the familys?

I'd sit down with my Dad and tell him what you think. Admit you'd rather have the manual Civic SI and see how open he is to that reality. Either he ultimately OK's the purchase or he ultimately thumbs downs the decision. If he OK's it? Then you are getting the automobile you seem to like the best. If he thumbs down the decision? Then you at least know you tried...and you can also know that The Fit is a great automobile. Try to enjoy it if that is how it plays out.

I own an automatic Fit, and given it's size, suspension...I think it's a lot of fun to drive.

How old are you? Nobody 18 or younger should drive a new car in my opinion. You WILL have accidents. You WILL damage the car in one way or another. And you SHOULD drive a beater for at least the first 3 years you have your license. That being said, I would take a fit over a civic any day. We are a rather exclusive club compared to them civic people.

 

well, my dad said he is going to get me a cheap new car, instead of a used car, because used cars arent reliable, i tried to ask him about used cars but he said hell no, if some1 even gives him a used car he wont take it lol.

I think a new car is okay if it's not powerfull (so a fit is fine, a civic si is not). I never made an accident, wether with my geo metro or my mr2 turbo. I'm 20 now, around 50 000 miles since I drive (mostly city driving).

 

Im probably just projecting myself on to others I have a 97 tbird that still runs great but dear god did I beat the crap out of that car. Any other less tank like car would have died after sliding in to a pole on ice, drifting into a tree, and getting rear ended on the passenger quater pannel TWICE! To say the least, getting a real job, buying a car, and paying the car note myself really changed my respect for my vehicles. I'm sure not everyone has to learn the hard way like me, but many will.
